The SEO Strategy that led Canva to a $40 Billion Valuation

  1. 3

We actually implement this strategy at https://motionbox.io.

Our DR went from 28 - 52 in 4 months, our traffic went from 7k per month to 30k per month.

    https://ibb.co/3FbgP3x

This drives us about 10-20 new customers per month. We still have work to do in regards to our content frequency and silo strategy. The biggest thing we need is to get top 5 for Keywords that convert customers.

Our best keyword is Youtube to Mp3 which doesnt convert well.

Very cool and congratulations!!! You guys are killing it 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀

      1. 1

We could be doing more, but yeah I am shocked with our results. Still need to put the nail in the coffin

Just subscribed to your YouTube channel. I'm a seasoned businessman, with a number of products/businesses over the years, but realised that we need to do SEO to stop spending quite so much on PPC (for one reason) and so at 52 years old I am diving into it to understand enough, so that I can communicate properly with any professionals that we hire. I would like to say thank you for some great and informative videos that are just the right length! I would definitely pay you for an audit!

    Thanks once again. Ade

      Hey Ade !!

Thanks for all the support man - it means a lot to me 🎉🙏. SEO is definitely the long-term play - wish you the best of luck!

Let me know if I can do anything to help 🙌

    Your videos are super informative!

Nice breakdown, will be using some of these!

Canva sends like hundreds of outreach emails daily. I used to run a popular website in a similar space and almost every other day I'd get an outreach email from them asking to link their free tools. When you can afford to hire full time SEO guys to do this all day and night it can certainly do wonders. Also been getting a lot of emails from veed.io lately. The outreach format and content is almost the same.

    1. 1

Yeah, they really push heavily for link building!

I've also read that they run their link-building teams with sales-like objectives. You need to reach "x" amount of links this month.

Quite intense but looks like it works!

Great video Jaume! Idk if this strategy would work if you are starting up, SEO can take too much time :) but it’s very powerful if you can survive🤙

  7. 2

    Great breakdown! Thanks for sharing

    1. 1

      Thanks for watching !!

  8. 2

Great video 🙌🏻 and I get the clickbait, but don't confuse causation for correlation. There are 101 reasons why something happens and attributing it to one thing is not a good practice.

    1. 3

You're 100% right. Thanks for watching tho 🙌

  9. 2

Great video Jaume, this is the same strategy Zapier pulled off to grow to a billion dollar company as well. Nomadlist and Visalist also execute on this strategy at a smaller (but still quite lucrative) scale.

    1. 2

Thanks man! Yes absolutely!! Zapier has done this exact strategy and it has worked wonders for them. Thanks for the other examples :)

Did you see @sssaini's vlog that referenced your video as well?

OMG! I didn't know @JaumeRos was on IH. I thought @AntCas was doing some serious Youtubing haha. I subscribed to your channel just days ago. Quality content.

This growth strategy has insane potential. Here's how to implement it in code for all the devs out there with Next.js and Static Site Generation!

          1. Start a Next.js project and add a simple page at /pages/templates/[id].js
          2. Use getStaticPaths to generate dynamic paths like: /templates/html-template-1, / templates/html-template-2 and so on. (Btw you can generate any no of paths you want, 10 or 10M, talk about insane scaling amirite)
          3. Use getStaticProps to fetch the id and pass it as a prop to a React component.
          4. Run the project and Next.js will bake individual HTML files out of your dynamic data and React view. Voila! You have done exactly what Zapier and Canva are doing.

Code is a bit hard to write in the comments so here's a Github you can check out or a full writeup by yours truly.

As a bonus, don't forget to use next-seo package to add dynamic SEO to all the generated pages ;)

Hey. Monica Lent @momoko (also in here) has created a free course for developers. I've not looked at it, but she has a good reputation. https://seofordevs.com

    2. 2

there is this guy that has a newsletter called "100 days of SEO".

      1. 2

Great newsletter, but it had stopped for no reason about a month ago?
I've been texting the author but no response

        1. 2

The last one I received was on 8 Nov and on day 61. I noticed it stopped for me as well but restarted.

Also if you have less than those 61 days that I have and you want them, I can forward them to you

          1. 2

Yes exactly, 61 days then nothing for me

    3. 1

      Hey man !

Resources in terms of learning about SEO? Or resources in terms of tools to use?

          Yeah absolutely.

I always refer people to the ahrefs blog and to backlinko.com those are for me the two best ways to learn about SEO if you're just getting started.

They write phenomenal articles and also have really great youtube videos on these topics.

          Definitely check them out!

Let me know if you see anything out there that maybe doesn't have a video made - I'm always looking for video ideas!!
