I'm preparing to launch our product on PH soon (in 3 weeks).
The product is command bar (cmd-K) for popular SaaS tools (to start with). This is targeted for people who use multiple apps for their work.
People can install the chrome extension and start using cmd-k anywhere to invoke the command bar and do things like "create new jira ticket", "go to Stripe failed transactions". People can also search for help docs and read within the command bar without navigating out of the app.
Now, my main questions:
What is something I need to get right before launching on PH? I could think of having a great explainer video, a few images and a good launch text.
How do I go about getting a hunter? Is that necessary? I've seen some people mention Hunter is not that important these days.
Should I first post it on relevant subreddits to get users' feedback and then wait a few days to launch it on PH? Does that matter?
Is a landing page needed for a Chrome extension? Is it better to have the "Visit" button on PH directly taken to the chrome extension, or should I send users to a landing page?
The first version of our product will not have any paid plans. Some people tell me that having a paid plan + PH offer works great. Is that necessary? Can we go with a free product?
PS1: Sorry for asking too many questions. Just wanted to ensure we have a good launch.
PS2: I understand there is already a ton of content on the Internet, but I wanted to personally listen from our community and ask follow-up questions (if I have any)
I haven't done a successful PH launch myself but I've helped a bunch of people launch their products successfully - some tips:
Good luck!
thanks for sharing your tips
Doesn't answer all your questions but here is the recently PH launch experience
thanks, will go through it.
I've created a Coda doc that has tips from others that have launched on Product Hunt. You can pick the tips and advice that works for what you are launching and set due dates as you count down to launch.
Always open to suggestions on how to make this a better resource for other builders.
Good luck with your launch.

Seems like a very comprehensive guide on launching on PH. Thanks for sharing your collection.
My thought was that you can't really get high in the rankings on PH unless you have an existing audience or source of traffic. It's basically a popularity contest, but I don't have enough experience to say that with conviction.
We launched like three weeks ago, and you're right. Even though we had audience(over 6000 users total, around ~2000 daily active users), and were doing all kind of things to get them to write a review etc. we couldn't compete with apps which were launching for third/fourth time on PH with tens of thousands of users. We manage to get to 12th place of the day. Not great, not terrible I guess.
Interesting. Did the new 2 hrs open voting change on PH make no difference?
Well, not really if you can send mailing to your users to support you on ProductHunt ;)
Just share some experiences:
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to get some solid feedback from the PH launch.
