ChatGPT wrote 95% of it, what do you think?

It smells like "roasting time"!

So, 98% of the landing page was written by ChatGPT.

75% of the Chrome extension was written by ChatGPT.

But... 100% of it was built from a problem I personally faced as unread conversations were getting far below in my inbox.

What do you guys think of this landing page for a Chrome extention I made (with the help of ChatGPT, obviously): http://leftunread.top/

I'd love to get your feedback on the landing page. The use case for the extension is the following: On Twitter (twitter.com/messages) and on Messenger (messenger.com/t/...), hide all read conversations to bring unread conversations to the top of the inbox.

Does it convey well the benefits of using the extension, and make you want to install it?

Much appreciated!

PS: Feel free to roast the landing page as much as you'd like, I won't be offended... But ChatGPT might be LOL.

I think you should write it yourself. There are still some clarity issues as I didn't understand what the product does. This may be against all the hype, but I believe ChatGPT is still isn't ready enough to write conversion-focused copy. Furthermore, I think this takes away the exercise of validating hypotheses and getting a deeper understanding of your target audience.

Here's what I suggest but feel free to edit based on your understanding of your target customers:
Headline: Focus on the main benefit of the user. "Don't leave a message unread" is still one step away from the real goal. Is this for businesses? then probably generate more revenue (increase CLTV, conversions, etc).
Example: Generate 15% more revenue by replying to every single customer. (15% should be proven)
If it's for normal people, I still don't see the main benefit.

Let me know what you think first and please clarify the main goal (not the functionality) so I can help you better.

    1. 1

In a way you are right, I definitively didn't take the time to really talk about the pains and needs of the target audience. I think that it's not exactly ChatGPT the issue here, but mostly that I didn't take the time to really address it. But for sure ChatGPT might not be the best at doing that part for you if you're not willing to take the time to do it.

To answer a part of your question about the audience, as I initially built it for me, I would say that it's for founders and creators that uses Messenger and Twitter to engage with their audience in DMs, or for entrepreneurs that request for lots of freebies while also having conversation with lots of like-minded people.

When you have 10+ new conversations every day, if you skip one day where you don't answer to every one, it starts to pile up and past conversations that are unanswered get push very far down, and they pretty much disappear.

Sometimes, you don't even need to have conversations, you might just ask to receive plenty of freebie (Like and Comment and receive a DM with the freebie), that it starts pushing down other conversations.

That's pretty much the background use case of why I made this extension.

  2. 3

I just did the same thing. Currently, working on redesigning my website and I used ChatGPT to create the majority of the copy.

Found a small mistake, in the "Get Your Inbox Under Control" section. The first letter is lowercase for the description of "Streamline your inbox".

For the CTA I would choose a color that stands out more. There's a lot of the same color so it blends in with the rest of the website.

Also, when the mouse hovers over the button the background color becomes transparent and no longer seems like a button. Add a different color to it. For example, the "POST COMMENT" button here in IndieHackers for posting a comment. It changes color, not transparency.

Lastly, I would add that the second CTA that contains two lines of text needs more padding. For the first line make the font size bigger and the second line shouldn't be a second CTA but instead an addition or reassurance to the CTA. For example, "Free Trail 14 Days", "Satisfaction Guaranteed", "No Credit Card Required", etc.

    I hope this is hopeful!

    1. 1

Ohh good catch, it might actually have been me that joined the two together and didn't see it.

Good point for the CTA, I'll look into it.

Oh damn, I'll look into it, I thought I had fixed the button transparency :(

Good idea, and good point, about the second line.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, really appreciated it!

  3. 3

Looks interesting. What are your plans to grow and any plans to charge? I am also curious about who generated the artwork on the homepage.

    1. 1

Very good question, for now to be honest I have built it for myself as I was having too many messages that were getting pushed at the bottom of my inbox. I still don't know if I'll simply keep it free, and use it as an asset to build an audience, or if I'll make it paid.

But for sure, if I make it paid, I'd have to change a few things in the extension to make it worth it's value, as for now it's really basic.

In terms of the artwork on the homepage, 1 of them comes from a template of SwipePages (the tool I used to build the landing page), and the other ones comes from Google (don't tell the original owners 😬) because I didn't have the time to generate some images with AI, but definitively in the future I would probably just use an AI image generator and remake them to be safer.

      1. 2

Haha, your secret is safe with me. The best products are the ones you create for yourself.

I tried generating some SaaS homepage images using Dalle, but none worked well. Curious if anyone had any tips.

        1. 1

          Thank you hehe

I don't have any tips for now, because each use case is a bit different... But I think that overall, Midjourney seems to be one of the easiest from what I've seen.

          1. 3

I used midjourney for this image.

nice graphic. Well done! If it was a gif.. then it would tell me a deeper story
I LOVE the idea of the site. Training ground to improve our prompt wizardry.

Be nice on your site if I could see a list view of all cool projects (and as you grow, segment that some way). List view, i can see context much better. When we have context many of us learn much more quickly. prompt xxx => image thumbnail

            2. 1

Nice! Thanks for sharing the prompt, that really helps!

  4. 2

I think there is plenty of room for improvement.

The headline doesn't make sense. Perhaps something got lost in translation, but I don't know what that means. I can figure it out from the context of the rest of the page, but you can't count on everyone to put in that effort.

I found the page to be really repetitive. It's good to reinforce the main points, but the wording is too similar and doesn't add any additional context or interest.

Speaking of the wording, it's a bit too general to have the impact you're looking for. Try to paint a picture with the words. Get the user to imagine how this will solve their pain points in specific terms.

I think the secondary line of your button copy is stronger than the main one. I would go with that and cut out the main line completely, because there is too much text for a button.

I would also change the color of the buttons so that they contrast more and draw the eye.

    Hope that feedback helps.

    1. 1

As you got to understand it by reading the page, I'm curious, what would have made more sense to you for the headline?

Since the extension is very basic and simple, just one button to click, and it does one thing, it brings all unread conversations to the top of your inbox, what would you do so it doesn't repeat itself too much?

I like what you're saying about making them imagine their problem solved. It's indeed something I haven't put on the page, you're right.

Thank you for the feedback, it's really appreciated, and it definitively helped!

      1. 2

I think what makes the headline confusing is the wording. It's not people that are unread it's the messages from those people.

One thing you can do to make it less repetitive is to simply cut a lot of the repetitive copy. If it's a basic simple extension as you say, then there's no reason the landing page can't be as well.

You could also replace it with messaging that adds additional context, such as use cases or a section that demonstrates the functionality.

        Best of luck.

        1. 1

Ohhh, that's such a good point! It would indeed make much more sense grammatically.

That's a fair point, I might indeed simplify the landing page at some point.

I've added an animated GIF, hopefully that's better now.

Thanks for your feedback, truly appeciate it!

  5. 2

Looked nice to me, how many installs you got so far?

    1. 1

I was hoping that Dev Console Analytics of the Google Web Store would have been more accurate and reliable, but from what I can see, it seems that there's only 1 install out of 44 page views.

      1. 2

Then probably, it has not updated yet. Check after week. Sometimes its slow to update.

        1. 1

Ohh that's really good to know, I thought it was just broken xD

  6. 2

I didn't read the text as I was looking at the images, none of which show Messenger or Twitter direct messages.

I would love to see the actual product.

    1. 1

That's a good point! I actually didn't add any image of the product as I wanted to "ship" the landing page quickly. But for sure, it would be good to make an improved version of it with some screenshots of it.

  7. 2

I like the value proposition and idea. I've used GPT to generate copy in the past and think it's a great starting point. On the other hand, it does feel a bit generic. One of my top identifiers for detecting GPT copy atm is "Say goodbye to X and hello to Y" - this phrase is used quite often.

    1. 1

That's a good pattern to be mindful of its usage, thanks for pointing it out, I actually didn't think about it. But you're right, I could definitively have made sure that the copy is addressing more of the needs and pains of the target audience. I'll work on that!

  8. 2

Great job! To me the sub-header is more useful than the header.

"The Chrome Extension That Filters Only Unread Conversations"

Maybe it's just me but this is all I needed to get hooked and continue reading further.

    1. 2

I agree the heading and sub-heading in the hero section should be switched.

    2. 1

Ohhh you might actually be right, I'll probably make that change. Thanks for the suggestion :D

  9. 2

fm, widgets/extension in this space, typical CTA is 'stop wasting time'. It never gets me.. As wasting time, means the citizen is actually doing something currently.
More often, anything tedious, is just left to go wild.

Is unread the real problem, or is it a triage problem?

fm, same for my inbox. Same for new posts on IH... Too many inbounds.. an no ability to placeholder. Yes I want to do x later. Bookmarks/ Read tag/Pin are methods but none have really nailed it fm.

Re: LP a funny gif on (gone wild -> problem disappeared) would of spiked my curiousity. If your extension actually makes the problem disappear. and I could see that in gif, I would be downloading very quickly.. to test it.

but hey, savvy use of chatgpt!

    1. 1

Interesting, and I quite agree actually... So, what would be the best way to describe "time saving" without writing "stop wasting time"?

Ouhhh I like that! That's indeed quite a good question, because the real issue is triage of unread conversations.

What would be your dream solution to solve that problem, I'm curious?

When you say gone wild, what do you have in mind? Curious to understand what you mean exactly.

      1. 2

mm.. never seen a dream solution . It would be in realm of a slick multi-level 1 tap gesture triage. I have seen some other savvy mechanics in osx though e.g. shelves, snap to side., auto dock, watched inbound auto

What is the real problem your app solves?

        • Yes to another members point, "filter only unread".. or "see only unread "
But that only works if your using 'unread' for 1 purpose (aka unread)
        • I use unread to give me some ability to triage -- pin , snap to side.
        • My nickname for this problem is inbound overwhelm
        • Wider context, problem sits in my 'distraction free' strong preference. Unclutter.
        • Experienced Benefit| Fm, still not saving time. As I am doing nothing. It is what it is. If a dream solution did exist. It makes that niggly feeling disappear. It gives me a sense of relief. It actually transforms my relationship with the "inbound". It becomes enjoyable to look at v. ohh. know (sigh)
        • Scope| A dream solution is needed in ALL places we have inbound overwhelm. Even my IH bookmarks are looking that way. sooo many bookmarks already.... IH bookmarks is only ability to placeholder the 'new posts', to come back too... . For me, the real problem is a major UX issue that has been unaddressed for a long time. The solution is not to make our screens bigger , or better scrolling. I have scrolling fatigue.. I have seen articles on people trying to solve this from a bookmark perspective e.g. 'bookmarks stale, we need a better solution'

Fm - powerful CTA are in the positive, rather than the negative. Let me experience it , even for a split second. 'distraction free' is much more powerful than unclutter .

The untapped potential - The Possibility -- is to provide an elegant, no fuss(1 tap) solution, that it does not have to be this way. LIke Apple does with many of their design ways.

        • The OSX colour flags were an attempt at triaged. Failed for me. Problem with them they never gave the feeling of its gone (temporary). or feeling of 'dealt with' aka triaged, and its not 1 click gesture for your 2nd colour of tag. grr
        • The email auto filter tabs by google was another attempt. Tabs (now not visible). Alogirthmn (auto but no transparency of how). Bad bad bad in my book as you just dont see stuff the algorithm got wrong. I am forever helping older people who ask me to sort out their inbox as cant find stuff. And sure enough it is hidden in a tab, they never use.
        • The UI for me is soft. clean. warm.

How could a triage? - that I can share

        • pin - later gater stuff. Yellowpin like you know you need to do it but i need some more peculolation time. Or its as simple as not in mood now. LIke hitting snooze on your alarm clock. Or blue pin for my partner. He gets top of everything so I never like wading down to see his message. If not a blue pin, his messages get docked to top immediately. This means when driving, much easier to see at a quick glance at traffic lights if he sent me an update.
        • snap to side - will do as soon as scanned the unread for emergencies, must action now. (in dropobver I can see a bit of shelf so I never loose sightof it)
        • On my macosx i use dropover and dropover has concept of shelves. I do the same with files as my inbox. They files go in the shelf as a placeholder. I tis actually savvy, and based on 'text' or an element you can set a filter for it to got to this temporary place without looking. So then on way home, I just go there and one by one go thru my 'todo'.

or now in the world of AI-assist -- maybe the solution is an embedded AI-assistant for triage. In setup it asks me some lovely discovery questions, Your inbox has 110 hits, what do you want me to put in bucket 1, bucket 2, bucket 3, etc.. 1-tap AI-Assist triage.... do you thing.. your magic. Wow! And 1 tap undoes.. redo... undoes... ho ho

I am a one-touch person. I dont like waste. I dont like to reread something just because I had not bucket (triage) to put it in. I am super organised in every other aspect except inbound. It finally overwhelmed me, and now I just let it go to the wild. It is what it is. So if your like my beautiful partner, who has a high threshold of mess, none of this unpleasantness goes on. They have this marvelous ability to ignore the wild (and makes me wide eyed in awe).

gone wild means: Like a field in the paddock, anything you leave unattended, eventually goes wild. Also it is a bit of being gentle. If I am caught out.. not replied.. that i say ..opps. must be in the wild.. let me look.. gone wild / over to the wild side

Apologise reply is so long. Hopeless at writing concise.
Hope this helps. Ill be watching. Best Wishes.

        1. 1

I like the term inbound overwhelm that you use, as well as the positive CTA rather than negative ones.

And you're right, bookmarks and all are often just a "dump" place where we put everything we like but never really go back to...

Thank you for clarifying, that really helps!

  10. 2

    awesome man. 🙂

did you use chatgpt just for the copy of the landing page?

    1. 1

Thanks! :) Yes, I used ChatGPT only for the copy of the landing page.

  11. 2

I actually really liked the landing page! I think it gets the point across very well. I'm also curious about how you worked with the prompts to get this result. Did you get any design feedback or did you work that out yourself?

I literally just posted about how I did something similar in this post and I really want to know how other people are using it as well! https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-i-use-chatgpt-for-starting-a-new-business-b0e81c7a9e

Best of luck with the extension!

    1. 2

Most of the design of the landing page is based on a template of SwipePages (the tool I used to build the landing page), but I do have some design background, so it helps :P

As for the prompt, I used a prompted that I found on Reddit and that I modified to follow a specific custom framework that I build. Here's the original prompt that I tweaked for you to use:
Write landing page copy using the '6 W's' framework to convert leads into customers. Identify [ideal customer persona] as the target audience, clearly describe our [product/service] and what it does, highlight any time-sensitive aspects of our offer or the problem it solves, specify where the product or service can be purchased or used, clearly explain the benefits and value of our [product/service], and explain how the product or service works and how the customer can obtain it. Include variables such as [product/service], [unique selling point], and [desired action]

Amazing post that you did, I found some prompt quite good. Good job!

      1. 2

        Thanks! Glad it was helpful.

I really like the prompt you used as well. Saving it for future reference. And definitely can tell how knowing some design helps a lot in the overall look and feel. I am working on learning more about that as well.

        1. 1

Awesome! If you have any question, feel free to reach out :)

  12. 2

I'm not an expert on design but I found your landing page appealing, I'm very curious on how ChatGPT can help out with how things look? I didn't know.

As for your idea, I have this problem on my LinkedIn, getting messages from recruiters, and messages from people wanting to connect, I would really like to keep the recruiters messages where they are, but I don't want to lose the people who are just reaching to connect, I think people would defintely need some kind of filter, so some messages need to be on top but not everything.

    I'll download your extension!

    1. 1

For the visual, ChatGPT didn't help there asI used a template of SwipePages (the tool I used to build the landing page), but it did write the entire copy of the page based on a custom framework that I built.

Yeah, I think that most social media platforms have the same problem... And for some reasons, lots of them seem to not have anymore (if they used to have it) the option to show unread messages only.

  13. 1

No doubt ChatGPT is amazing and all of my content of below blog was written by ChatGPT. You can check it right now.
