At its peak, Blockbuster Video was worth about $1.2 B USD and employed about 84,000 people. Netflix is valued at a whopping $228 B USD yet only employs about 12,000 people. Video shops were often the part time work that helped students get through school or become store managers when they might otherwise not have much chance at getting any job. When people went out to buy or rent a video, they would often chat with store staff or even friends from the neighborhood. Now they stare at the screen in an uninterrupted stupor without any human interaction. The basis for technology marketing is a belief called "enthusiasm for technology" that is just that, a belief, not a fact. As a belief, it runs deep. We need to start evaluating technological "advancements" in deeper ways and start challenging the assumption that they benefit society, when in fact, they often do little more than concentrate wealth and harm the social fabric.

But since you are now one of the biggest players in the field it’s also time to start treating a paying your essential workers right. You can no longer use the ‘we are new media and thus’ excuse. Yes everybody wants to work for you, but you as Netflix should have the decency to pay technicians, stylists, caterers etc etc etc a realistic and worthy wage. And 16 hour days aren’t humane either. Lunchbreaks are mandatory just as toilet breaks. And I call you all actors benefiting from those priviliges of being on screen to stand up for those who facilitate you being there are and looking your best.

Hey Netflix. COO of a #trans tech company Euphoria.LGBT We'd love to talk to you about your #Transgender education needs. We also offer free employee benefits & resource app for your employees going through the various pains of of gender transition or who might have a child that is. You could still come out on the right side of this. It's not "cancel" culture, its "accountability" culture and we all have room for improvement, even if maybe, we've been denying it. Ask Blockbuster 😉 Here to help, We can always do better, Cris

true story: I actually owned Netflix stock back when it was just DVDs by mail because I was a customer from the beginning and a true fan. Unfortunately, I sold the stock because it really wasn't going anywhere and the future outlook seemed uncertain. Just a year or so later and you debuted your streaming service. You can imagine how much I wish I could turn back the clock on that one 😳
