Why your business needs a Facebook community

A successful business has a lot of small but impactful factors that go into making it that way. And you don't want to miss anything that could potentially help you succeed. So, one key element that you may be missing out on is a Facebook community.

Now, you might be thinking, "I already have a Facebook page for my business. Isn't that enough?" Unfortunately, no. Just having a Facebook page is not going to cut it anymore. Why? That's what we'll explore in greater depth in this post.

Why Facebook Pages Aren't Enough

First and foremost, Facebook pages are becoming increasingly less effective. The organic reach of Facebook pages has been on a steady decline for years now. At present, the average reach of a Page's post is just 5.2%. So, only one in 19 fans see a page post.

Secondly, people are using Facebook in different ways than they used to. Ten years ago, Facebook was primarily a way to connect with friends and family that you already knew. But now, people are using it as a discovery tool. They're using it to find new businesses, products, and services that they didn't know existed before.

And when people are looking for new businesses on Facebook, they're not looking at Pages only. They also look at groups. So, if you want your target audience to actually see your content, you need to be posting in a group.

Finally, groups provide a level of engagement that pages simply can't match. When people comment on a page post, it doesn't notify the other members of the group like it would in a group. So, people are much less likely to actually see and engage with the content on a page.

Groups, on the other hand, are designed for engagement. When someone comments on a group post or creates a post, everyone in the group gets a notification. That encourages people to actually participate in the conversation. And when people participate in the conversation, they're more likely to buy from you.

So, if you want to grow your business, you need to start a Facebook group. It's simply the best way to reach and engage with your target audience. And when you do it right, it can be an incredible tool for growing your business.

What to do when you create a Facebook Group

Follow these steps to get started with your business community.

Create a group based on your brand or niche

The first step is to create a group that's relevant to your niche. For example, if you sell health supplements, you could create a Facebook group of people interested in health and fitness.

You can also create a group that's just around your brand. Naming a group after your business can be the easiest and most convenient thing you can do. Your audience will find it easy to identify your group and will join it to engage with you.

Promote your Group

Your next step should be to promote your Facebook group and make it popular. You can run ads but it's optional. There are many other ways to get more people to join your group:

  • Invite your customers to join your Facebook group when you onboard them

  • Let your customers know that they can get educational content and support on your group - which will induce them to join it

  • Include a call to action on all your social media channels, website, and email list

  • If you have an offline business, include a call to action in your store

  • Create weekly posts based on different themes. For example, you could have a weekly Q&A meeting that's live. Or you could feature a customer every Friday

These are just some ideas to get you started. When you promote your group, make sure that you're clear about what benefits people will get from joining it.

For example, if you're a coach, you could say something like, "Join my group to get exclusive access to my knowledge and experience."

Or, if you sell products, you could say, "Join my group to get discounts on my products."

When you keep nudging people to join your group, you'll have more members. And over time, your group will grow organically.

Engage people regularly

It isn't enough to have group members. You also need to engage them regularly. If you don't, they'll stop visiting your group and eventually leave it.

The best way to keep people engaged is to post interesting and relevant content on a regular basis. You could post:

  • Blog posts

  • Videos

  • Podcasts

  • Images

  • Infographics

  • Live Q&As

  • Polls

And encourage your audience to post their questions, concerns, and ideas as well. The more you get people to participate in your group, the more engaged they'll be.

You should also create a system where you can address people's concerns quickly. For example, if someone posts a question, make sure that someone on your team responds to it within 24 hours.

The key is to keep people engaged so they keep coming back to your group. Your Facebook Group is also a great way to reduce the strain on your customer support. Very often, group members answer each others' questions.

Conclusion

A Facebook group is an essential tool for growing your business. It allows you to reach and engage with your target audience. And when you do it right, it can be an incredible tool for growing your business. So what are you waiting for? Start a group today!

Hey Syed, can you include more tips on how to actually promote your group? All of the tips above were basically about using your existing audience to funnel them to the FB group.

    What about things like:

    • Posting on other groups
    • Running ads
    • Working with other communities
      etc.?

Hey Syed! Thanks for the advice. Would you say the effectiveness of FB groups depends on the type of customer/client you're trying to attract? I can imagine it being helpful if your business is B2C, but does it work as well with B2B?

This was really insightful. I've been going around creating posts on Facebook page, wondering why haven't got any engagement. Will definitely try the groups approach. Thanks.

In my opinion there a multiple reasons to stay away from Facebook Groups, besides the privacy issues. Not everybody uses FB anymore (500K less users per day). FB Groups is not versatile enough and not search engine friendly.

I'm working on a new project, a community plugin for your (SaaS) website: https://www.socialsaas.io/
(sorry for the self promotion in your topic)

    Any feedback is appreciated (A)

I am considering whether to create a Facebook group or Discord group for my website, but managing and promoting a group is really a time killer, I am not sure will it be worth my work, regarding we are a small team and just started...

Dam. I see now why people aren't bullish on FB long term. Doesn't sound like people paying for advertising on the site are satisfied with the results their seeing from FB. I'm sure it's not cheap either (atleast when your not a large company, and you an indie on an indie budget).

I'm still somewhat bullish on Facebook, though, despite everything going against it. I just think it has a rough year or two ahead, while things shake out.
