Reached $15k MRR 🎉

Giglio-designs.com recently hit an MRR of $15k!

This is a solo company where I'm working directly with clients to help them cover any design needs for their company.

One of the best parts of working with multiple clients is the opportunity to work within different niches, mainly within Crypto and SaaS companies.

I want to thank you all of the Indie Hackers community since I learned a lot from it, both directly and indirectly.

Let's keep pushing!

Congratulations and keep it up. Would love to know the story of how you got your first 5 clients.

    1. 1

@ash_rahman thanks! A mix of cold emailing, Twitter and Linkedin DMs mainly, and also some exposure from my online presence on YT and others.

  2. 2

Congrats!! When you started out at the beginning, was it tricky to find clients? How did you tackle that?

    1. 2

It was, in fact one thing I'm noticing is the main issue in selling this type of services is trust on the client's behalf, as they wonder "will this service be able to deliver at it's price point?". I am considering offering a small trial in the upcoming weeks an see if that helps conversions, but even that comes with it's own set of potential downsides.

Thanks for the response! Hmm yeah that could help. Best of luck!

Let the IH community know how it goes!

Hey @PierluigiGiglio, super inspiring stuff as I'm building the video equivalent for your service. :)

I really like your comment on establishing trust; that's definitely the biggest challenge, especially if you offer affordable pricing.

Have you found any particular channels that are bringing you consistent leads?

    Congratulations!

    Very nice progress, congratulations!

As the design work is unlimited, would you mind to share how many clients (let's say Design level) you could work with at the same time? Thanks

    1. 2

I can but numbers alone are misleading, and the reason being is that every client is slightly different. There are more demanding clients and less demanding clients, and in general I was never able to go more than 6-8 clients at a time - 3-4 being the sweet spot (some with higher paying custom plans, similar to a close to full-time or part time commitment). The game really is to find your ideal clients, that's how you can scale without overworking yourself. And how you do it is by attracting the right attention through various marketing mediums.. which at the moment is my most challenging part, always looking to level up and explore more ideas on that side :)

      1. 1

Thanks for sharing the details, it's very helpful.

Yes, choosing ideal clients are really important. I guess $15K MRR might be the top ceiling if most clients are Design level. So, if the clients continually coming, will you keep looking to level up or maybe create a design team? :)

Congrats🚀 I am on my way to 1k$ MRR atm for a similar business model for a different niche (Email development) 😅

It seems this service as a service model is actually working 😂

  7. 1

Congrats! Wondering where you drew the line on the product (not just an MVP) to make it up to the first 5-10 paid accounts?

  8. 1

Hello, great :) i'm wondering how do you advertise and where did you find your first client?

    1. 1

The first client I got from a FB post, can't even recall the topic but they were looking for advice from a designer. The rest is from cold outreach or referalls/online presence.

  9. 1

Congrats bro for your achievement !!! Your offering about "unlimited design revisions" are very awesome benefit. I can't imagine if you faced complicated client

    1. 1

Thanks! Complicated clients can happen, but I've been a designer for 10+ years so I'm pretty good at sensing red signals from the calls or first project so it's not a big deal - still happens, but rare and if it does it's better for both to split ways. Only work with a small circle of clients that you can truly create a great win-win situation for the long term.

      1. 1

This is great food for thought for me: "Only work with a small circle of clients that you can truly create a great win-win situation for the long term."

        Thanks for the insight!!

  10. 1

Congrats!! I would like to know if you had to deal with zoom meetings or calls to convert clients?

    1. 1

100%, I noticed most people won't pay 1.5 - 2.5k/mo without a call first to check if your services align with their needs

  11. 1

    Congratulations!!!

  12. 1

Congrats Pierluigi 🎉 I have a question, I saw Calendly on your website. Maybe you would like to support my startup https://zencal.io? Till 2023 we are 100% for free and then we will have a free plan also. I will be grateful for your feedback 💪

    1. 1

How do you make your marketing? What's your strategy?

      1. 1

Hey, I'll check it out! Re marketing is good old direct outreach and referalls/web traffic from different sources. I'm trying paid ads recently but haven't had a single lead yet so I can't speak about it for now 🙌

  13. 1

    Congratulazioni, Pierluigi!

  14. 1

    Congrats Giglio!

If there is an opportunity for one more designer I would love to be part of your team!

    1. 1

@khadush Thanks and I'll keep you in the loop on that - you can DM me on IG ( instagram.com/giglio_designs/ ) and I'll check out your work :)

  15. 1

    Congrats man! Nice going

  16. 1

First of all, congrats! I've seen a couple of people starting to find success with this model.

Most of them were working solo if I remember correctly.

Is your plan to continue solo forever, or do you think you would ever want to add more people in to scale?

Another question, can you share a bit about how you manage your schedule/workload? (The other people doing something similar were working pretty much all day long, so I'm curious if it is similar in your case.)

    1. 1

@ItsKev thanks! Re the solo vs agency I think I'm keen in keeping it solo dor pretty much the same reasons Brett from Designjoy outlined recently. Re the schedule, I am also in the all day long category , but keeping it mainly Mon to Fri and do lighter and creative work on Sat :)

@Maniss why not, it's a huge industry and there's ton of potential. It's a biz model that does come with pros and cons, but the scalability I guess is one of the most appealing parts.
