- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2017I read this book years ago and still quote some of Halmos's wisdom. This is a most readable biography. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2013I pick up this book at book fair at ucla back in 87. I would never dreamed the book will ever become so expensive when I try to get a new one for my son. Yes, I throw the old book away probably 17,20 years ago. I lost most details of it but I know the life as a mathematician is difficult. Graduate more than 20 years and no one paid me a penny for mathematics I had learned. If you like this book, you probably would love essay and stories from Bertrand russel and Albert. E. Of course, the life and achievement are different, but they all share part of their journey through mathematics.
Good to read and enjoy. No worth to pay expensive price tag. And don't ever major in mathematics no matter how much you love it.
