"Our Trustworthy God: How Much God Loves You, Joyfully Engages with You, and Trusts You" by Sarah K. Howley is listed as a Bible Study, but I don't really see it as a Bible Study. Yes, it has some Biblical passages in the pages. It is a good real with thoughts on building a relationship with God. I really like the examples of Moses and Abraham included in the book. The author discusses the question why tragedies happen and how we can trust an unseen God. I think all Christian could benefit from reading this short book.

Our Trustworthy God is the result of years of seeking. I knew I was supposed to trust God… but. I struggled with the buts of trusting God. There are too many to name, and they usually start with “why?” Some examples are when good people have bad things happen to them, why? When someone we love has died too soon, when our best friend gets cancer, when a hurricane strikes and whole towns are lost. For me, it was cancer in the family and even starting my own business. I couldn’t really understand, or “feel” that everything was working out for my good. Trusting God wasn’t exactly an on-command reflex when I thought of these things. It was easier to wonder where God was rather than trust that he IS and will always be here.

But I wanted more than to believe he was here, I wanted to know deeply that God was working for my good, even when all I saw was destruction and evil. So, I spent a year dedicated to digging in and seeking to understand what trusting God really means. I wanted to know how trustworthy God is, all the time. I didn’t want that knowledge to remain in my head, but I wanted it in my heart. I wanted it to be the automatic reflex when bad things happen that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was in that situation and working for my good.

What I found surprised me. Don’t misunderstand, more than ever before, I know God IS with me in every circumstance and he IS working for my well-being. He loves me deeply. What surprised me was that God trusts me as well and his power is unlike anything I could imagine.

A deep discussion of relationship and trusting God is what came out of that search to understand how I could trust the unseen God in an evil world, and I had to share it. Because I know my God is good and he is trustworthy. He is working for your good. He loves you, joyfully engages with you, and he trusts you.

This is another great book in the series. I love the message that this book imparts, that even if we are handicapped we are still loved by God and can be loved by others. I loved the ending. This book is like two romances in one book. These books can be read as standalones but I recommend reading them all as they will bring a smile to you. This book also shows that sometimes it is better to back away when others plan bad things toward you.

Have you ever met characters in a story that stayed with you, even when they weren’t the main characters? That’s what happened to me after I wrote Runaround Sue. Sue’s brother and her roommate seemed to hit it off so well, and I loved those characters.

It only made sense to give Tracy and Danny their own story.

However, I will confess that I had planned to make a character named Tracy because of the song, “Tracy” by the Cufflinks. It’s such a happy, bouncy tune and I thought that fit Sue’s roommate.

I do need to add that I relied on a childhood friend for some Danny’s antics. At one point I was told that something he did wasn’t possible. The problem was, I knew it was because my friend, Maureen McKay did that very thing. Maureen had a personality like Tracy’s and determination like Danny’s.

A few years ago I was back in Kokomo for a special wedding anniversary party. I noticed a guy sitting at a table and went to talk with him. At that time, I was combing faces for someone I’d known back when I went to school there. He had that look, but as we talked, it was obvious we didn’t know each other.

A little later I told my cousin about that, and she said that he was ahead of us in school, but he had a younger sister who would’ve been about my age. I knew immediately why he’d looked familiar. He was Maureen’s big brother.

I searched him and his mother out quickly and let them know I remembered Maureen. I mentioned a few of our escapades. Then I told them that my husband and I had lost a son, and that the kindest thing anyone could say was that they remembered our Ian. So, for that reason, I wanted them to know I remember Maureen.

And that’s why Tracy is dedicated to the memory of my friend Maureen McKay.

Young Children will love this book and the colorful pictures. This book and story show that God can help and does help in small ways. This book is designed to be read aloud. I gave my copy of the book to a two-year-old and he was immediately drawn to the cow and the kitten on the front of the book. The story line is the kitten helps Lauren milk the cow who is not very cooperated at first. If you have young children and are building a library for them, then get this book for it. I would even say this would be a great baby shower gift or a birthday gift for a young child.

About the Author

Allen Brokken is a teacher at heart, a husband and father most of all. He’s a joyful writer by the abundant grace of God. He began writing the Towers of Light series for his own children to help him illustrate the deep truths of the Bible in an engaging and age appropriate way. He’s dedicated 15 years of his life to volunteer roles in children’s ministry and youth development. Now that his own children are off to college he’s telling stories and sharing clean humor on social media and through his blog.

Sometimes, a story just HAS to be told. When I first wrote the book that became Light of Mine, book 1 of the Towers of Light series, there was a scene in which the main character, Lauren, and her newly found kitten are trying to milk the cow. It was a sweet moment in a chaotic story, and I had fun writing it as an homage to my kitten squeaker, who made trying to work around home very challenging at times. However, my editor was pretty clear that as cute as the story was, Meow Meow’s interlude with the milk cow Clarabelle just didn’t fit the story’s action. So, unfortunately, that scene found its way to the cutting room floor.

After a few years, I started having mothers of children who loved the Towers of Light Series ask the same question over and over….”But what about my littles?” Do you have a story for me to read to my younger children? After thinking about it, I realized Meow Meow’s adventure might be a perfect read-aloud. So I reached out to a fellow Realm Maker, Pam Halter, who has a really fun series of books with Willougby the Dragon, to see if she could help me turn my 2500-word novel scene into an 800-word picture book…and she did a fantastic job! So now we have Meow Meow Milks the Cow.

Another fun fact is that the character Ethan in this book is all grown up now and engaged to be married to Reace Erbe, and this is her first illustrated work in print. So we all hope you enjoy this Tower of Light read to me.

"It’s Fight Night: Lessons For Men On Samson’s Fight" by Todd Woodfill is a book written for men. But I say it is a good book for anyone, because all the chapters expect the one on fathers could apply to anyone. I was thinking I really don't want to read this book, I am not a man but I didn't really feel that way once I started reading this book. The examples the authors use of course are all men except the chapter on Mental Health. This is a short book, less than 60 pages, there are discussion questions and application tips and steps at the end of each chapter. There is a Scripture to read before each chapter and then it prints out a key verse. Of course, the main focus of this book is Samson. The main focus is Judges 13-16 and one passage from I Kings 19. This next sentence is in the conclusion part of the book

" The life and story of Samson and its profound lessons remind us of the intricate interplay between strength, weakness and divine purpose. Samson's narrative in Judges 13 to 16 serves as a timeless allegory- a testimony to the complexities of human nature and the enduring grace of God."

The Wanderer’s Legacy is the third book in this series. It can be read as a standalone but does mention characters from the other books. I have read the first book but not the second one nor have I read this book in its entirety. This book is a long read, over 600 pages. While reading this book I EXPERIENCED ALL THE FEELINGS that readers like to experience, such as happiness, joy, disliked and the characters experienced betrayal and faith and love and loss. I have heard of Lamech from GENESIS, BUT HAVE TO ADMIT NOT KNOWING MUCH ABOUT HIM. I do want to finish this book and also reading the second one.

I wrote The Wanderer’s Legacy because I believe stories have the power to communicate deep truths and transform lives, and Bible stories are no exception! Lamech, the first man to have two wives, features way back in Genesis 4, after Cain & Abel and before Noah. It’s not even a story, really, it’s a little poem stuck at the end of a chapter. What is it doing there, and what can it teach us about God’s goodness during a really dark time in humanity’s history?

That’s what this novel is about. It was an excuse to engage deeply with that story and the result is full of biblical truth that I hope will draw the reader closer to Jesus, understanding how his redemptive purposes are woven through the fabric of the whole Bible, even obscure little poems that almost feel like a sidenote.

Rather than telling you more, I’m just going to share the opening with you, to give you a taster…

“Adah presses her back to the pillar, squeezing into its evening shadow. Her heavy breathing is almost as loud as the heartbeat pummelling in her head. Surely someone will hear?

Her chance to escape diminishes with every moment of delay. She is a desert jerboa – alert, aware of every sight and smell, yet frozen in place as she awaits her predator’s pounce.

Azurak should be occupied. Her son arranged it when she pleaded with him on hands and knees, eyes streaming in desperation. But Adah is sure she hears him. His rasping breath and distinct blood-soaked-campfire smell linger, fusing her feet to the ground.
