Review of Ruth's Amish Words of Faith by Tracy Fredrychowski

Can Ruth Yoder's deep devotion to God and her determination to use the power of her words for healing bring hope and comfort in this inspiring story about an unlikely friendship and a life-changing journey? This heartwarming tale follows Ruth Yoder, an Amish woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she is diagnosed with breast cancer. In the midst of her struggle, she meets Wilma Nettles, a young English school teacher facing the same daunting challenge. Though they come from different worlds, their shared trials forge a bond filled with laughter, love, and an unlikely friendship. Both women will walk a journey of their own. One will walk in faith, the other in fear.

Determined to embrace a summer of healing, Ruth and Wilma decide to take an adventurous car trip to Pinecraft, Florida. Their journey takes them from the quiet, picturesque Amish communities of Pennsylvania to the sunny, vibrant Amish vacation village in Sarasota. Along the way, they find joy in the simplest moments, share stories that bring tears and laughter, and lean on each other for strength and comfort.

Through the laughter and the tears, Ruth's unwavering faith inspires Wilma, and Wilma's vivacious spirit brings light to Ruth's sheltered lifestyle. Their journey together becomes a testament to the healing power of friendship and faith, with Iona also finding clarity about her feelings for Seth Trenton amidst their adventures.

Can this faith-filled woman find the courage to share her heart with her new English friend and pursue healing even when the world tells her there’s no hope?

Ruth’s Amish Words of Faith is the inspirational seventh book in The Amish Women of Lawrence County series of women's fiction novels. If you like spiritual explorations, real-life challenges of emotional bravery, and basking in God's light, then you'll adore Tracy Fredrychowski's exploration of hope.

My Review

This book is like no other Amish novel I've read. The author has put Ruth Yoder, an Amish woman, and Wilma Nettles, an English woman, together for a friendship. Surprisingly, they go on a road trip to Florida together, and it is about to change their lives forever.

The characters are compassionate and understanding, coping with the same circumstances. The story will have you cheering them on, laughing with them, and then crying. It runs the gamut of emotions. Ruth and Wilma have many layers, and you will wonder what will be uncovered next. This story is one of her best and will keep you thinking about it long after you turn the last page. I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting.

The ending wraps everything up nicely, but not without surprises. This is a wonderful, uplifting, inspiring story filled with faith and God's love.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Book

Book: Lizzie’s Little Mouse (The Heart of the Amish Series Book Eight)

Author: Anne Blackburne

Genre: Amish/Christian Fiction

Release date: April, 2025

Lizzie Has Dreams That Won’t Be Deterred

Full of faith, hope, and romance, this new series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.

Ever since attending a wedding in Louisiana, Lizzie Miller has been fascinated by French baked goods. With permission of her parents and bishop, she did a two-year internship in a French bakery in New Orleans. When a local Amish bakery became available, she bought it and opened her own French inspired bakery.

But now someone wants her out of business. During her grand opening, a strange man accosts her, then a brick is tossed through her window wrapped in a note telling her to leave. Someone breaks into her apartment above the bakery, and her cat chases the intruder out.

With the help of her friends, Lizzie will get to the bottom of why someone wishes her to fail. And at the same time, she’ll realize that sometimes dreams can be fulfilled with what—or who—was always close at hand, just waiting to be noticed.

MY REVIEW

This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed the character of Lizzie, who is so independent, caring, and quite determined. She was motivated to succeed despite the threats to close her new bakery.

There is humor, danger, mystery, and an unexpected budding romance. The author did an excellent job of weaving some historical and mystery aspects into the story, keeping me engaged. I like stories with cats, so Little Mouse was a great addition. Made me laugh.

It's an exciting story with lots of twists and great characters with flaws and strengths. I gasped when I read some parts, laughed through others, and thought a lot about "who did it" until the end. It's not your normal Amish story—much more.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Anne

I’m so excited that once again, the amazing bloggers who work with Celebrate Lit are going to do a blog tour for my brand new book in Barbour’s “Heart of the Amish” series, “Lizzie’s Little Mouse”!

Lizzie’s story is available now to readers in print and online wherever fine books are sold, and I feel so blessed to have the help of the Celebrate Lit folks in launching this wonderful story.

If you read either of my previous two books in the series, “Ruth’s Gingersnap Surprise” and “Mary’s Calico Hope”, you’ll remember Elizabeth Miller, their sassy friend with the darling Haflinger pony named Goldie who gave Mary a ride one morning before church services. Elizabeth, or Lizzie, was also mentioned in Ruth’s story as one of the lucky recipients of a kitten from their elderly friend, Lydia’s, cat’s final litter.

Lizzie’s cat is a gray kitty she named Petit Souris, which is French for Little Mouse. Why Little Mouse? Because as a tiny kitten, the darling reminded Lizzie of a mouse!

And why the French name? Well, our heroine is not your typical Amish miss. After attending a wedding in New Orleans as a teen and tasting the amazing baked goods for which the city is renowned, Lizzie began dreaming of opening her very own New Orleans style French bakery – in Ohio’s Amish country!

She loves everything to do with New Orleans, and learned to speak their dialect of French while doing an internship in a bakery there when she was 18. Upon returning home she went to work at the local bakery to learn more about the business, and to save up for her dreams.

As the story opens, we find that Lizzie’s dream has come true! It’s opening day of The Plain Beignet, Lizzie’s bakery in Willow Creek, Ohio. Everyone comes out to wish her well, including friends you’ll recognize from my first two books!

But when something unexpected and frightening happens during the grand opening, it becomes apparent that not everyone is as happy as Lizzie and her friends about her success.

Along with some help from her pals, and her best friend Jane’s handsome big brother, John, Lizzie will get to the bottom of the mystery of who wants to put her out of business, and why!

They discover, among other things, that Lizzie’s bakery was the site of a murder a hundred years before! What could this historic crime have to do with Lizzie’s current problems?

As she, John and their friends search for clues, Lizzie will discover that there’s more baking than her latest batch of beignets!

Could it be romance?

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Lizzie’s story! This book is my third in Barbour Publishing’s series, “The Heart of the Amish”. Look for other great reads in the series from authors Mindy Steele and Lisa Jones Baker.

I’m currently writing my fourth book in the series, which will feature a young woman you’ve met in all my other stories, Jane Bontrager.

Just like her friends, Jane received a kitten from their friend, Lydia; a little brown tabby. Her story, “Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer”, is due out in early winter 2026. .

I hope you’re having as much fun reading about these remarkable young women – and their kitties! – as I’m having writing about them. Thanks for being part of our journey!

As for me and mine, we are all well and enjoying spring in southeast Ohio. In other words, enjoying the sunshine, but carrying a sweater and an umbrella, just in case!

God bless you and yours!

Joyfully,

Anne Blackburne

Blog Tour of Perfect by Kimberly Keagan

Perfect JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Perfect by Kimberly Keagan, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Perfect

Title: Perfect
Series:
Hearts on Display #1
Author:
Kimberly Keagan
Publisher:
Ventana Publishing, LLC
Release Date: May 6, 2025
Genre:
Historical Romance

In the glittering era of the Gilded Age, the heirs of Philadelphia’s Denwall Department Stores navigate family expectations, relentless ambition, and unexpected love.

William Walraven’s picture perfect life is turned upside down when his fiancée jilts him for an English aristocrat and his father refuses to name him as his successor. To prove he’s worthy of leading Denwall Department Stores, Will must open their first New York store under budget and before the Christmas shopping season.

Overwhelmed by disappointment and a nearly impossible deadline, Will has no time for distractions—especially not the captivating bookseller he saves from being crushed by a beer wagon.

Ivy King and her aging grandmother are barely keeping their struggling bookshop afloat. Though drawn to the charming, enigmatic man who saved her life, Ivy has no illusions about her place in the world. It certainly isn’t beside a department store heir whose dazzling emporium threatens to close her family’s business.

Brought together in the wake of an attack on Will’s brother, Will and Ivy find themselves at a crossroads—torn between the expectations that define them and a future neither expected.

Perfect is a clean, wholesome historical romance featuring opposites-attract tension, class differences, a touch of mystery and humor, and an inspirational journey of faith and love.

My Thoughts

The historic details of the Gilded Age in New York City in 1895 made the story come alive. The descriptions of the backdrop of Dewall's large department store and how it affected the smaller stores created many interesting details that kept my attention.

For a debut novel, the author did an excellent job of creating characters I could relate to and believe in. Ivy is stubborn and determined, with integrity, trust, and faith in God. She runs a bookstore with her grandmother and Will, who is trying to fill his father's shoes but finds that there might be a better way. Can they create something between them despite coming from two different worlds?

The storyline has heartache, deception, danger, heroism, and many sweet moments—a budding love against all odds. The ending wrapped up everything nicely. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

War brought them together, but one lie holds the power to separate them forever.

Western Virginia’s Kanawha Valley is a hotbed of rebellion tensions and mixed allegiances.

Amid talk of war, Augusta Dabney tends her younger siblings and dying father. But when hatred sparks tragedy, peace is but a shattered memory. Heartbroken and desperate, Augusta searches for a way to protect all she holds dear.

Defying family and friends, Dr. James Hill declines a prestigious commission in the Confederate Army to join the Union cause as a Regimental Surgeon. When the Dabney farm becomes a crossroads of colliding forces, Major Hill commandeers their barn for a hospital.

My Thoughts

Set during the Civil War, the story follows Augusta and the rest of her family as they find themselves

involved in helping the Union soldiers during the war. The author's exciting way of describing the war and the surrounding area shows a lot of research on her part. Every chapter written brings everything to a climax. There were so many instances that were intense and gripped my heart. I loved how the author weaved in God's word and how the characters responded.

The characters appeared real, with deep emotions and many layers, and they made history come alive. It is a heart-tugging romance as they face the ongoing war that brings disruption. The ending was a surprise. I list Kendy's books as one of those on my TBR pile. I can't wait to read more by her. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Kendy

I was quite happy expressing my inner farm-girl and thriving at all things musical for decades. Until I found myself teaching high school history and raising three sons. I should have saved up a dollar for every war movie I watched! All the men in my family had a great interest in history. I remember watching the boys in a production of King Henry the Fifth, complete with Old English and death by sword. One year, I taught about the Civil War in three different classes, so that era became a favorite interest of mine. I read every Christian Historical novel I could find about the War of Rebellion.

Boy, did I have fun researching! For three months, I pored over the most incredible true stories of families and events, reading even soldier diaries. I created timelines and wrote note cards. I became the student again!

There is much of myself and my life in When the Mountains Wept. The female main character (Augusta Dabney) is part me and part who I long to be. She’s responsible, tough, brave, smart, farmish, doctorly—and she has red hair, freckles, and an Irish complexion that splotches and sunburns. My daughter influenced the 12-year-old sister in the story (she figured that out on her own). Will (Willamina) is a tomboy who will risk trouble for the sake of adventure. She is strong-willed and often has an attitude. (I’m pretty sure that last part was why my daughter figured it out.)

I enjoy a story that makes me laugh, so having three sons, I am pretty familiar with boyish antics. The 6-year-old brother added humor, and a saucy 12-year-old girl provided plenty of fodder, too. The romance between two very different but strong personalities provided an opportunity for a few laughs as well.

If a book makes me cry, it’s a keeper. My story contains painful truths, each rooted in my research. The characters experience the harsh reality of their circumstances. I cried while writing more than a couple of the scenes. It is just plain hard to wrap my head around living smack dab in the middle of war, where your neighbor is your enemy and your home is no longer your own.

I fell in love with the family I created in When the Mountains Wept, hence, I must not consign them to the past. They will live on in this series as each member of the Dabney family shares their own story of adventure, romance, sacrifice, and faith.

Blessings from the Heart of History, my friends!

Kendy

My Thoughts

The author has penned a very realistic story that shows how the Holy Spirit tries to guide Mara and Lucas' lives. But the forces of evil are at work and try to get a stronghold on them. Book 2 is even deeper, with more battles with the unseen and more struggles with their faith. The spiritual aspect of the story keeps it grounded.

Mara and Lucas face many challenges in this book. It's a story of heartbreak, betrayal, and forgiveness. The story wraps up nicely but ends abruptly. However, it continues in the next installment. I can't wait to read book 3 in the series. Highly recommended.

More from Blossom

Have you ever felt like something, or someone is watching you? Have you ever experienced darkness in a fully lit room? Or wondered if a malevolent force was working against you?

We all love stories on angels and God’s love and protection, but we also have an enemy…a living, breathing adversary. Ephesians 6:12 says…For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (NKJV)

This story, Mara, In The Face of Battle… is the second in the Victory Series. The series found me. My genre is historical romance. I was building a following, won some awards, and loved what I was doing. But as I finished up my last series the Holy Spirit made it very clear that Mara would be my next project. From my own personal experience of spiritual warfare where Satan has come to steal, kill, and destroy, (as Jesus warned in John 10:10), I was to write a series on a character named Mara from birth to death. I think this approach is unique in and of itself. But then to weave in the unseen, how angels fight to protect, and the darkness seeks to destroy, adds a whole new and deep dimension.

If you would enjoy a read that is a cross between Frank Peretti books, and Francine Rivers’ character Angel, in Redeeming Love, then you’ll love Mara, In The Face of Battle. In this powerful trilogy, discover a world where spiritual warfare is brought to life, prayer is a weapon, and faith is tested. Expect to be impacted in a way that will change your life story.

You will be entertained, (nothing wrong with that) but you will also come away with a greater appreciation for prayer, for Christ, and His work on the cross. You may even view the trials of your life in a new encouraging way. The battle is real but the One by our side is victorious.

I’d like to end by enclosing an endorsement from bestselling suspense author, Creston Mapes…

“I’ve been watching and waiting for a powerful new voice in Christian fiction, and I’ve finally found it in Blossom Turner and her new thriller, Mara – The Unseen Battle. With spiritual warfare comparable to Frank Peretti, this book was powerfully spiritual and chillingly realistic. It had everything I love in a good novel — tension throughout, great pacing, unexpected twists and turns . . . I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.” — Bestselling Author Creston Mapes

My Thoughts

I loved the story about Gabe and Betsy. Betsy's life was not easy. She was a schoolteacher trying to support the family after her father got fired. Her pay never seemed to be enough. And it only got more difficult as time went on. My heart was touched by Betsy's determination to go on despite the agony of everyday living. The villain of the story, Luther Conrad, constantly worried her.

The storyline is filled with lessons learned from God's word, constantly shaping Gabe and Betsy's character. I loved the ending. Everything was wrapped up nicely. There were times when I felt compassion for both Gabe and Betsy. I can't wait for the next one in the series. It's been a joy to read so far.

I received an ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Review of Relinquishing the Agent Blog Tour by Lorri Dudley

About the Book

Book: Relinquishing the Agent

Author: Lorri Dudley

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: April 8, 2025

Can love bloom between a woman living a lie and a man sworn to uncover the truth?

Bluestocking Rebecca Leah Prestcote would prefer to hide in a library, searching for a cure to her sister’s ailment, over participating in London’s Season. But when her wealthy cousin demands Rebecca attend a house party as her, Rebecca cannot refuse. Her cousin intends to win the affection of the Marquis of Wolston and Rebecca is, after all, a charity case. When the Marquis unexpectedly arrives at the wrong party, Rebecca must uphold the ruse, or be caught in her cousin’s lie.

Daniel Elmsley, Marquis of Wolston, cannot let another target escape, not if he plans to catch the band of body snatchers and prove his worth as a spy. But when people at Lady Coburn’s house party go missing, his mission escalates to stopping a murderer. When he intercepts a letter meant to blackmail Lady Prestcote, he begins to wonder if the beguiling beauty may be involved in the conspiracy.

Singled out for Lord Wolston’s affections, Rebecca must maintain her web of deception and evade the investigation of the captivating marquis even while he ensnares her heart.

My Thoughts
This well-written story is about intrigue, deception, secrets, spies, and lots of fast-moving action and mystery. I was taken in by the first few pages I read. It was hard to guess who the villain in the story was, and I didn't discover it until almost the end. It kept me guessing.

With a looming betrayal, the main characters showed many layers, and I rooted for them but despised others. The story was set in England in 1817, and the backdrop was handled in the style of that era. It was well-researched, and the characters made me feel like I was there watching. I couldn't put it down, and I recommend it.

I received an advance copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Lorri

Listed among the Regency underworld of housebreakers, Thames pirates, sneaks (pickpockets), Covent Garden nuns (prostitutes), vagrants, and ruffians are another class of evil-doers called resurrection men, also known as sack-‘em-up men or body snatchers. The dark industry of grave robbing blossomed in the early 1800s and was thrust into the public’s eye by the notorious Burke and Hare murders in 1831. While my story takes place earlier, in 1817, the laws and practices were already in place before Burke and his accomplice were arrested.

In the early 1800s, the academic field of anatomy and physiology started to break new ground with the invention of the stethoscope and the first open heart surgeries (not all successful). Many of these breakthroughs developed as a result of the dissection of human cadavers. Fresh bodies became a hot commodity, but by law, the only bodies legally designated for dissection were those of hung criminals. Demand outweighed the supply, and an underground market for grave robbing grew as academics handsomely paid resurrection men to dig up specimens. The fresher the body, the higher the earnings, which ultimately led to the ugly intent of murder.

Why would a Christian author want to write about a horrific topic like body snatching?

While my story doesn’t go into any gory details (I get woozy at the sight of blood), Rebecca and Daniel’s story allowed me to dive into the concept that we all have intrinsic worth. The victims of Burke and Hare were people society had forgotten—people who were expected to go unnoticed if they disappeared. But those victims were image bearers of God. Jesus proved their value by dying for them on the cross. They are not forgotten because God knit them together in their mother’s womb, knows every hair on their heads, and has carved their names into the palms of His hands.

Rebecca and Daniel’s love story, with mystery, espionage, and romance mixed in, demonstrates how God’s power is made perfect in weakness. While Lady Coburn’s excentric party guests and the victims of the villainous resurrection men exemplify that worth isn’t based on works, popularity, or lineage but on the sacrifice Jesus made for them.

Enjoy!
