Any alternatives to Ahrefs? How are you monitoring and growing your SEO?

What tools do you use to monitor, plan, and grow your SEO?

  1. 3

Here are the tools I use :

    • lowfruits for keyword research
    • SerpBear self-hosted for rank tracking
    • GSC to monitor
  2. 2

If you'll forgive a self-promote, I tried to build an Ahrefs-style tool (but simpler and cheaper), and I failed spectacularly.

    Why?

Well, Ahrefs, Moz, and SEMRush are pricey because it takes a lot of computing power to get the data that they have. There are other data sources available (I use the same one Ubersugest taps into), but they're much smaller than Ahrefs and SEMrush, so I wasn't winning over SEO experts who wanted all the world's data at their fingertips.

OK, but I could win on simplicity, right?

The trouble with SEO tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush is you'll plug in a keyword to load up hundreds of the same suggestions your competitor is looking at. Which one will you choose? What will you prioritize? What type of content will you create?

That's a lot of questions for a SEO-novice to sift through, so we lost on simplicity. It turns out that no matter your color scheme, SEO is still pretty hard and freakin' competitive.

So why comment on this post?

Well, I still have the software we built (and I use it daily for my SEO services clients), but we married that to a community where I advise marketers and founders on how to approach SEO and get results. I run live monthly calls too where we break down different SEO concepts and leave plenty of time for Q&A.

I share this because SEO is hard, and I tried/failed to make a software product to make it easy. So I'm trying to help founders at scale.

If someone comes across this and thinks "Oh that's neat" then you can check it out here: www.centori.io

I'll also do some self-promotion here, as I built 3 SEO tools and managed to get a (small) pie of the market.
While Ahrefs does it all, these tools are more targeted to a specific need.
One of them is https://linkody.com, specifically for backlink management.
I shipped the 3rd one https://linkstorm.io very recently. It's cutting edge.

I tried with Ubersuggest but I still think that hrefs is unbeatable. With SEO, which I am still learning I believe, we don't have a silver bullet tool available and now AI is changing the game with keywords (e.g. perplexity) so I think keep using multiple tools and make sure not to miss the momentum.

Matthew, there's many choices available (as you can see in the comments). The tools mentioned for the most part have differentiating factors that appeal to their specific target markets. Looking at your site, I'd say that ahrefs is overkill (great product though).

SEO is a diverse subject and you haven't said what it is you're exactly looking to do. Is it technical SEO, content creation, content strategy...?

You can get a lot of mileage out of free tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Again, depending on your needs.

Sure, right here are some easier selections for Ahrefs for SEO, as well as how I preserve the tune of and enhance my website's search engine performance:

    1. SEMrush: This tool helps discover precise key phrases and see competitors' actions.

    2. Moz Pro: It assesses how nicely key phrases are doing and appears for trouble on the site.

    3. SE Ranking: This device looks at how nicely key phrases are doing and examines what opponents are doing.

    4. SpyFu: It examines what opponents are doing and finds true keywords.

    5. Google Search Console: This free device from Google tests how nicely the site is doing in Google searches.

To enhance my website's overall performance in search engines, I do a few things:

    1. Find Good Keywords: I use equipment to discover phrases people are looking out for that are not too difficult to rank for.

    2. Make My Site Better: I make sure my website's content and how it is set up are as precise as they can be.

    3. Make good content: I create beneficial and fascinating stuff that people desire to see.

    4. Get Links from Good Sites: I strive to get different websites to hyperlink to mine because it helps my website online in searches.

    5. Check My Site: I use equipment to see if any troubles with my internet site would possibly make it more difficult for people to locate it.

    6. Keep Track: I use equipment to see how many people go to my website and what phrases they use to discover it.

I can recommend SEMRush as it offers a great variety of options on tracking keywords, content ideas and backlink management.

There are several alternatives to Ahrefs for monitoring and growing SEO, depending on your specific needs and preferences. SEMrush offers comprehensive SEO tools, including keyword research, backlink analysis, and site auditing. Moz provides similar features, with a focus on domain authority and page optimization. Another option is Majestic, which specializes in backlink analysis and link-building strategies. To effectively monitor and grow SEO, a combination of these tools can be used to track keyword rankings, analyze competitor strategies, optimize on-page content, and build high-quality backlinks. Regular monitoring, analysis, and adjustment based on data-driven insights are key to successful SEO strategies.

I came here, thinking that there would be someone building it, but to my surprise, there aren't many!

see if Serpstat.com is a fit. Accuranker.com is another to consider.

Ubbersuggest by Neil Patel is pretty good and MUCH cheaper. He isn't being fair with his competitors charging so low for such a good product. That's what sucks about it. I also use SEMRUSH's free plan.

This one is on my list of tools to try - https://www.seo-stuff.com. I haven't used it yet but it looks great. The prices are based on affordable credit packs so if the main tools like ahrefs, SEMrush etc are too expensive then this could be a good alternative

Alternatives to Ahrefs include SEMrush and Moz, offering comprehensive SEO tools for keyword research, backlink analysis, and competitor tracking. Monitoring and growing SEO involves regular analysis of keyword performance, on-page optimization, and strategic content creation to improve rankings and organic traffic.

I have actually been using Semrush for my SEO research and keyword exploration. In my experience, the functions between Semrush and Ahrefs are very similar.

The pricing is also more affordable compared to Ahrefs. I'm certainly not an advocate for any particular tool, but Semrush has suited my needs well so far.

Of course, different SEOs prefer different platforms, so it really comes down to personal preference.

I am using SEranking for research and Tracking, SurferSEO for the Content and ChatGPT 4 For Producing the content and with the editor humanizing it.

Would be interested in that as well.

Ahrefs for small developers is on more expensive side:-)

There's semrush, seomoz, the google tools and many smaller ones depending on which features are a must for you, you might use different tools for discovery and planning vs monitoring (but I'm rusty in the area)
