What maker communities do you recommend?

What discords, telegrams, slack communities etc do you hang out in?
I am looking for fun places with a mix of different types of people making things

I run a Slack I've called Indiependent, it has a twist that you have to participate to stay in:

I've also started writing under the same brand too:

that's one way to keep people engaged! Even if they have paid do they get kicked for lack of participation?

I'm guessing there is some warnings before the kick. I can see that working quite well actually!

Yeah, the rule is to particpate (post something within the Slack) at least once a month. It's not a big ask, but it has worked surprisingly well.

There's about 35 of us there now.

People know the rules when they join. I do an channel/community message once a month to remind people, but apart from that it is really up to the people.

I've loved it as an experiment, we started in January, still going stable/strong.

yeah that's the main thing, stable/strong. From what I'm seeing, as long as there is a core of even just 3 or 4, they can be like the glue to keep it stable

I've ended up building a small discord community (separate from the maker community topic here) - we needed a place to talk with writers and give guidelines for the prototypr publication. Then it kindof makes sense that they introduce and meet eachother, so it starts having some community traits

However, I'm more looking to build a support network that existing contributors can can dip in and out of to share things they need projecting, rather than a community where we'd need to encourage engagement.
Tricky balance, but still very early and shaping it!

Hey Graeme! I've put together a few in here: https://ctrlalt.cc/?jsf=jet-engine:products-grid&tax=post_tag:89 (though I've grouped them together with tools that can help people run their communities, until I gather some more and give them their own filter)

Let me know if it helps :)

Good question, I'm also looking for similar things.

Personally I'm in the Makerlog Telegram chat. But I would like to join other communities as well.
