Imagine, you are at a party and ALL the people are just frenetically talking, it may drive you crazy really fast if you are there for something deeper. I like the best a time stretch - a couple of hours into it - when all the nervous talking energy has been released and vanquished clearing the air for mindful observation, immersion, and lurking.
I know you laugh, and it's funny you say that, but really I think many people are made to feel bad or inadequate for not participating actively in communities. I feel it's a bit of a problem.

I do think we lack vocabulary for the different ways people interact and participate. I think there is a vast chasm between the lurker who upvotes and participates in polls, the lurker who rarely opens the site, and the lurker who reads often but never interacts.
