Lurkers are not lurkers, they are people who consume and participate in different ways.

This article would probably have more upvotes if lurkers could do that 😂

Yes, you nailed it (for me) with participation in the community expressed best by warm and gentle lurking : ). Imagine, you are at a party and ALL the people are just frenetically talking, it may drive you crazy really fast if you are there for something deeper. I like the best a time stretch - a couple of hours into it - when all the nervous talking energy has been released and vanquished clearing the air for mindful observation, immersion, and lurking.

I know you laugh, and it's funny you say that, but really I think many people are made to feel bad or inadequate for not participating actively in communities. I feel it's a bit of a problem.

First world community problems, perhaps! 😂

Couldn't agree more. We all have value we can add somewhere. It's a shame many of us feel like we can't for various reasons.

Nice, as a serial lurker, this is useful in also identifying potential causes for my lurker behaviour to try adjust. Hence making the supportive comment here to break out of lurking 😂

I do think we lack vocabulary for the different ways people interact and participate. I think there is a vast chasm between the lurker who upvotes and participates in polls, the lurker who rarely opens the site, and the lurker who reads often but never interacts.

Yes, I think so too. I'm trying to take steps towards addressing this.
