How we made $2000 in 12 hours with a random marketing strategy

Hope this inspires.

I work for a growth consultant and a coach.

We were looking to experiment with some new strategies simply for experiment purposes. Our goal was to generate a few dollars using this experiment however it was not any hard and fast rule. Any random outcome was to be noted for future use.

Hence:

Goal – Try a new random experiment.

Strategy:

We did not try connecting with our old database. We did not place any ads or cold emails. We intended to start everything fresh. We were not interested in connecting with the people who are known to us.

Hence, we created a simple product, a business audit strategic call priced at $100. Anyone who buys this product will get 2 hours of business audit done. The coach on a call with talk about strategies, next steps, loops holes, clarity, vision, etc.

The process was simple. People have to fill a form with 10-15 questionnaires, make the payment and book a call using Calendly.

Remember, nobody was told about our experience or background. Nobody knew with whom they are dealing. Everything was fresh and random.

Process:

We created a form using Jotform. The questions were related to prospects business like their goals, current status of business, weak points, plus points, motivation marks etc. The questionnaires were in the format of dropdown, checkbox, manual type, etc. Some were in long-form format and some were in short form. We also added our logo and contact email for the pre-purchase query. It takes approximately 10 minutes to fill the form.

At the end of the form, Paypal was integrated for making payments. Once the payment is done, the page will show the Calendly link. People can book a call based on their availability.

Marketing:

We wanted to do this for free and random.

Our target audience are the people who want clarity in their business, want to refine their business goals, learn new strategies, learn about sales etc.

To market them, we started with Youtube.

At first, we filtered the list of freshly uploaded videos worldwide related to business, book summaries, talks, motivation, business tutorials, etc., and pasted our form link there in the comment box.

Next, we moved to random business blogs and filtered them based on dates, and posted our links in the comments section of the latest blogs.

These same procedures were followed on Facebooks posts as well as a couple of business forums.

The outcome:

21 people signed up in 12 hours.

21 random people paid $100 each to someone on the internet to get their business audit done. We built a data of 21 new leads who can be our future customers. Though we have no plans to pitch our package to them but we do have that option available as well. So far we have generated $2100 through them.

Lessons Learned:

  • You don’t need a perfect website to start your business. You just need something organized and clean to pass the message on how you are adding value.

  • Target audiences are important. You can go with random strategies but these strategies should go to the right people.

  • Use forms for everything – to collect payments, do a survey, build leads, and more. They are simple and effective. Can get a lot done. We used Jotform however people can opt for anything that works for them. Eventually website should be the goal however forms are cool.

  • Making money on the internet is not tough however one has to be genuine with their offer to sustain in a long run.

  • Experiment a lot. There is no how. Try new things and then again try new things in a new way. Something will click.

  • People DO trust a random person on the internet. Take advantage of this. However, be genuine with your offer and try to add real value.

Hope this helps.

I would love to share the actual link however I am not sure if I can post the link here or not. If anyone wants to guide me, they can.

Thank You!

Very refreshing to see how simple steps led to success, @apekshasoni. Thanks!

    • How many posts did you place to market your offering?
    • How did you find where to place your posts? Did you do this all by hand?

    Congratulations!

Not only on this but also making onto the Indie Hackers Newsletter today.

People make things so complicated, and this is truly a breath of fresh air.

I would be interested to know where those people actually came from. Then double down on the traffic source. Just to increase the results.

Would love to see the copy you used for the actual comment and link. What got someone to click on a random link in a YouTube video or Facebook post, where they have no idea who you are. :)

That's interesting, @apekshasoni. I'm curious to know how many forums/youTube videos you had to post your links to to get those leads? Did you do it all by yourself or outsource it?

Also, is there any way you could post screenshots of the landing page?
