I'll record video feedback of your product, for free. (Product Leader w/10yrs experience)

Fixing your landing page will only get you so far. Product teams in companies have the luxury of review sessions to discuss and find issues with user experience and specific features in the product. Bootstrap founders don't have that resource, so I thought I would offer to provide it for a few people.

I will not share any video content online or with others without your explicit permission

Post your info in the comments
Depending on the number of responses, I'll select several products and record a video evaluating your product, for free. Up to 30 minutes max.

What to post in the comments

  1. Product name
  2. landing URL
  3. What you want more feedback on - UX, design, user onboarding, specific features, maybe you don't know why people aren't using a feature?
  4. What do you feel are the strongest parts of your product?
  5. What are the 1-2 metrics you'd like to improve from making product improvements?

--- ABOUT ME ---
I've worked as Head of Product and been in Product Management and Product R&D for 10 years, including at IBM, Technicolor plus a handful of well funded and fast growing startups.

I'm also a Behavioural Scientist (PhD, MSc) with a strong design background. I've run and built UX/UI and product teams and facilitated hundreds of hours of workshops to understand customers needs and Design Sprints too. Right now I run a mastermind group and offer 1-2-1 coaching to founders.

I've provided a lot of feedback on IH before, feel free to have a look at my post history if you want to see for yourselves how much i enjoy helping people move forward.

    Hey Paul,

Amazing effort, will be very valuable to whoever gets your feedback!

Me and my Co-Founder recently launched our Saas platform which helps businesses to better understand their customers through intuitive and quick surveys.

The platform is at early stages with a few users, so we can highly benefit from this kind of initiative.

    1.Sekker
    2. https://sekker.io/
3.We would be happy to receive feedback regarding user onboarding flow until getting your first survey setup, an overall impression of the process and evaluation of the outcome of this process.
    4.Simplicity, design and rich analytics.

    Thanks!

    1. 3

Ok done. It's about 30 minutes and pretty raw. I recorded my first experience with the platform, so you're getting my (very raw and honest) impression of the product.

Can you ping me an email address i can share a link with?

Bottom line, I've picked up a handful of issues on the landing page. In the product itself, I think you have a major UX issue around the creation of a survey. The placement of the "buttons" across the top and some confusing tooltips really slows down the onboarding. There's also no error states and I feel that the layout of the page could be greatly improved with very little work.

You're my first one - so I'd really appreciate feedback from you on the results, insights, how you'd prefer to receive the information.. would a transcript be nice to have? would a summary be better? I feel you get a lot just watching the video actually.

      1. 1

Hey, first of all thanks a lot! we are highly appreciating it!
This is my email address - [email protected]

And yes of course! Will send you feedback right after we'll watch the video, and a summary and key points could be nice.

    Hi Paul,
Really thank you can providing this opportunity for us, Hope to hear your good news!

I'm the developer of EtsyHunt. The aim we developing this tool that provides a free and strong Etsy product research tool for all Etsy sellers.

    1. EtsyHunt
    2. https://etsyhunt.com/en
    3. Cause this is a very younger product for Etsy, traffic is very unstable. In order to make it more convenient for users, we recently launched the Google Chrome extension function. How do you feel about this function? Your opinion is very valuable to us
    4. All free to use、accurate data analysis、keywords research 、Google extension

    Sincerely thanks!

Hey Derek, don't forget to send me your email :)

      1. 1

Hey Paul, please contact this address [email protected]

        1. 1

          got it, thanks. Sharing now

    2. 1

Hi Derek.. this one was a lot of fun to record. Can you give me an email I can send a link to?

You have the makings of a great product that should be very succesful, but I feel you're Chrome extension is not where you want to focus right now, plus there are some design and usability issues with the extension (it's all in the video I will send you).

My feeling is that you would benefit from doing more user research - interview 3 to 5 people who are actual Etsy sellers and do a couple of things with them:

      1. Mapping their user journey when doing research (agnostic of any tool) and some card sorting - what do they want to know, what is most important to know? what steps do they take when they do research? what is their desired outcome? when do sellers make crutial decisions about pricing? Bottom line: I would seek to understand really well what a seller does in the daily work, then you will understand where your product fits into that. If you understand the problem, you're already close to a solution

      2. A usability test: write a simple test script, then have someone go through those steps. You'll be looking for effectiveness (do they complete the task yes/no) and efficiency (how long it takes to pass/fail the task). You can ask them questions throughout to understand their expectations and frustrations.

I'm looking to offer (paid) follow up sessions as one-off reviews (like this one) and workshops to help people solve problems. I'll offer this also as part of a monthly service which will include setting goals (OKRs). Lastly, there's a mastermind group I've been running for several months that people can also apple to separately.

Send me an email, and let me know how you feel about the video :)

Thanks so much for doing this!

    1. AsyncHire
    2. https://asynchire.com/
    3. Would like to get feedback on the current Beta page experience and since one of our main selling points is that we are just an "extension" to the existing hiring process, does it represent correctly
    4. Simplicity, great candidate experience, design

    Thanks!

    1. 1

Hey Ivana! I like the idea here a lot and enjoyed doing this review. What's the best email address to share the video link with please?

Sorry for the delay, I've had a lot of responses to get through (nice problem to have I think). I'm doing them slower so I can take on any feedback and improve them as I go.

My main notes to you (there's more in the video):

      • The landing page looks great, but it takes too long to understand what the product does (asynchronous interviews by video). People aren't used to this as a product I feel, so at first i thought it was a competitor to Calendly or something. I love the idea though.

      • I'd really like to see the product itself and give you early feedback on whatever you have; prototypes, mockups.. or an MVP. I have a lot of questions on the video about specifically how you're approaching some key aspects of this.

      • if you haven't already, talk to some hiring managers. Understand their processes - every step of it. I can put you in touch with a few friends in HR who defintely feel the pain you are offering to relieve with AsyncHire. If you're not sure how to do the kind of UX research intereviews I'm suggesting, let me know.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the video I share with you.

      Thanks !

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for the effort, highly highly appreciated!! Here is info about recocards.com -

    Product name: Recocards.com

    Landing URL: https://recocards.com

What you want more feedback on - UX, design, user onboarding, specific features, maybe you don't know why people aren't using a feature?

    • What features would increase user engagement
    • General feedback on greeting-card layout
    • Any other feedback

What do you feel are the strongest parts of your product?

    • It's free!
    • Board/Card customizations

Thanks again, and eagerly waiting for your thoughts!!

    1. 1

Video done! Which email can I share the a private link with?

Here's a quick summary of the main notes from the video:

      1. Improve your UI design: hire someone on Upwork or Fiverr to make the site look more professional. I would focus on font choice (typography) and brand colours. Right now the site does not look as professional and polished as it could or should. I would definitely remove the card layout, perhaps you could offer a service to actually send a physical card in future, but for now I'd focus on just the board design. For the boards - again, have a UI designer take a look and see what improvements could be made.

      2. Improve the UX: there are several ways you could make it easier to start a board. People need to understand how your product benefits them (not what your product is) within seconds. Then you need to lay out a path that makes it simple to start a their own board. There's going to be two journeys: 1) from the front page and 2) after they look at the demo board. I would focus on removing extra clicks and popups from both these journeys. On the landing page for example, you don't actually need the popup, I could just get started with the form directly from the landing page I feel.

      3. Remove uncertainty: People will arrive with questions to your site such as - what will this cost? what does it look like? can i change the style? how easy is it to setup? what will the recipient see? can i collect money for the recipient here too or collect for a gift card?

      4. Remove the ad at the bottom. 100% you should do this, because that one advert cheapens your brand and service to me - it undermines any trust you have built. You're not going to make a significant amount from running one ad at the bottom, so it's going to end up costing you money. Honestly, I wouldn't have used the service once I saw that ad.

      5. Look into monetising the site by offering a collection feature and gift cards. You can take a fee for doing this. There are also other premium features you could offer to a regular user (there was always one person who's organised out leaving cards where I've worked in the past - which , if you can validate that with other people, suggests there is repeat business for you with that user segment)

      1. 1

This is fantastic and really insightful feedback, I'm really grateful, Paul. Thank you so much. Here is my email - [email protected] .

Also happy to return the favor in any way possible.

    Hi there, great initiative!

Would love to hear your feedback on Tails:

    1. Tails - TailwindCSS page builder
    2. https://devdojo.com/tails
    3. Any feedback would be appreciated!
    4. Symplicity, unique components, responsive design

    Thanks!

    1. 1

Hey @bobbyiliev, I've made you a video! Let me know the best email address to share a Loom link with :)

Along with the video, I've summarised a few thoughts that you'll also find at the bottom of the Loom video:

I think you're so close to a great product here - but there's a couple of issues for me:

      ENGAGEMENT

      1. Form over function: The UI of your app LOOKS clean, but it has some key functionality issues. I feel that activating everything by hovering the mouse makes for a very "jumpy" and slighty "glitchy" experience. It would have been better to have the "drawer" sections appear onClick instead IMO.

      2. Is drag-and-drop better than having a smoother experience? The drag and drop is a little fiddly on both Sarafi and Chrome. I'd strongly suggest providing users with an "add section" button at the bottom of every section, then having the sections appear (or the drawer open up) for example. You could keep the drag and drop, but I did not enjoy using it.

      3. There might be an opportunity to link to, or provide, some learning resources on Tailwind. You have an interface for people to swap out the attributes but people need to know Tails before they start.

      4. For me, I could code a website from the HTML you would provide - but I'd rather use a no-code landing page builder. It's a landing page, in 2021 i shouldn't have to see or touch those elements if I don't want to. That's where i think you have a divide in engagement - you need to decide if this is only for people who know Tailwind (or CSS and want to learn Tailwind) or

I found another site doing a very similar thing: https://tailwind.build
Their interface is a little smoother, but you're component designs are much nicer in my opinion. I think they also make the mistake of not letting people build something beautiful - too many nice components are locked! The upgrade popup is nice though, you should take some inspiration for theirs I feel. I still don't like the hover actions for the main component menu they have, but I do like that i can add their components by just clicking them.

      CONVERSIONS
Let users have a complete website building experience! You're blocking people from really experiencing your app - i would suggest letting people actually build a whole page with locked "premium" components. Make it clear those are premium by showing an icon (subtle, def don't use a big watermark or anything). The point is to let people actually build something with your beautifully designed components - this will create psychological value for users because of the "IKEA effect" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IKEA_effect) . Let users do everything but actually download the app they build - tell them at that final popup that they need to upgrade or remove the premium components to finish they're work.

The video on your landing page isn't nice to watch, it's the high-speed scrubbing. I'd rethink this and keep it simple.

PRODUCT POSITION AND MARKET OPPORTUNITY - THINK ABOUT THE NO CODE MARKET
I'm not sure how big your market is, but your "best-fit customer" appears to be people who already know Tailwind but want to cut down the time it takes to building something. I would consider these to be "power users" when it comes to building a landing page. I feel you're very close to being able to open this up to a different market segment.. people who don't want to code (or who don't code) that want to build a beautitful landing page.

You're very close to having an actual landing page builder - a "Tails-based" alternative to Wix, Squarespace, or the Unicorn Platform (build by an amazing IH member). I use Unicorn Platform, and I love it for the experience it provides me. But.. and this leaves a funny taste in my mouth.. you have a lot more component options and fresh designs.

You could integrate with a hosting provider (another Indie Hacker maybe) and just give people a simple hosting experience. Then, you could extend this by adding more and more features to actually offer people a fully featured landing page builder.

If you have any more questions let me know by leaving a comment on here, visiting https://the-poe-things.com or @the_poe_things on Twitter

    Hi Paul,
    This is great!

    Product name: Kit55
    URL: http://www.stack55.com
Feedback on: We are not sure if our landing page communicates properly our value proposition.
Strongest part: Simplicity and ease of use in comparison with other solutions out there. "Less is more" is the idea behind Kit55. It was a challenge to make something useful without bloating the UI.

    Thanks!

I should have asked before hand (I just recorded a video for your product). What are the "other solutions out there" that you're making the comparison about when posted your initial reply?

          1. 1

            Hi Typeofgraphic,
Thanks for what you are doing!

"Other solutions" are either online website builders (Wix, Squarespace, etc) or CLIs (Hugo, Jekyll, etc) or even WordPress. Our prototypical user is okay about working with HTML/CSS but does not want to deal with all the complexity of a CLI. I wrote a short article comparing all three solutions here.

Let me know if you need any more information!

  9. 3

    Hi mate!

Product is Relevance AI. We're building an API for implementing "discovery engines" - features such as instant search and AI recommendations.

I'm curious on the journey from landing page to testing search, and whether we communicate our value prop.

I feel we have done a good job on UI and design, but are struggling still with the UX involved in getting people to value coherently.

Product name: Daily Sales & Expenses

    Landing url: https://landing.dailysalesexpensesapp.com

Would love to get feedback on: UX and value improvement, meaning, where else can you see how we could improve value to users.

What I feel is the strongest part of the product: straightforward and easy to use but that's just us. Would love to hear if you actually think that 😄

    1. 1

I wasn't able to log in to the product - it doesn't let me. You'll see what I mean in the video. I've recorded several minutes of landing page feedback as there are some easy wins on there in my opinion.

Let me know when you resolve the login issue I was having and I'll do you another video looking over the app itself.

Can you send me an email address I can share the video link with please?

    1. 3

      Oh man, that's a shame - you're right, I'm not on Windows :(

Hold the phone.. just been Googling around.. there is a "remote control" feature on Zoom which should work if you're ok with me controlling the app on your machine via Zoom? I can record the Zoom session so you have it afterwards.

You would appear to have good controls/safeguards:

        Hey, that sounds pretty cool!
I think we could do that!

Other than today between 2-5pm, when I have some meetings, I'm pretty much all the time at the PC. I'll drop you an email, and we can agree on a time when we should be doing this. Also, I'm on GMT+2 time.

        Thanks!

Hi! I'm the founder of URLR. URLR is an URL handling platform, mostly an URL shortener for now. We are ranked #1 in France on most search queries and we have started recently to propose some paid plans. We are trying to have a good quality-price proposition and unique features to deliver high value to our users.

Our URL: urlr.me (also available in English: en.urlr.me).

Would be awesome to know a bit more about the travel on our website. We really want that people understand the purpose of our service and what they can get by subscribing to a paid plan.

Can this enter in your scope?

Thanks in advance for your time :)

Thanks for replying to the post, I really appreciate the opportunity. I've recorded a video for you, can you provide an email I can share a link with?

As I've said to others, I'm exploring how useful this is for people and the value people get from it. I'd love to have a follow up with you after you've watched the video to hear how you felt and what value you feel you get from the feedback.

      1. 1

Yes of course, here's our email: [email protected]

I'll be happy to discuss it with, you. Thank you again for your time :)

I've started posting (and numbering) after each video review I do on Twitter (@the_poe_things). I don't share video links on Twitter, I link to your site and say what you're about. You'll get a private Loom video link by email.

You can follow me on Twitter so you can see where you are in the queue.

    Product name: Mixpeek

    Landing url: https://mixpeek.com

Would love to get feedback on: How do I articulate the value proposition in a clearer way to the persona

    1. 1

hey.. before I record the video, can you confirm who are your main competitors ?

      1. 1

the main competitor is really DIY ... our prospects are building their own programs that parse their S3 buckets of non-text files (pdf, video, audio, image, etc.) then placing them in an ElasticSearch cluster.

        1. 1

I hope this can help you someway. Here’s a framework you can use to explain what you do:

[Product] is a [app, service, etc.] that [shows, enables, allows] [persona] to [what people can do that they can’t currently do] so [result].

          for eg.
Instaleap is a technology that enables COO's to increase efficiency in logistic operations, so you'll be able to reduce last-mile costs by 30%.

    Hello there, @typeofgraphic!

My product is BotMeNot - a tool for measuring your website's bot protection score!

I would like to get feedback mostly on the UX/design and do you think there's something that could be done to better incentivize people to sign up for the beta testing program?

The strongest parts of BMN I think are its ease of use and the powerful tests that it can run.

    Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for such initiative! It's very interesting to read the cases here in the comments. I would greatly appreciate it if you could give some advice on our product as well.
We've developed a complex Customer Support & Feedback Tool. The system has lots of features and at some point I think it's difficult for users to navigate while setting it up and understanding how it works.

    1. UseResponse
    2. https://www.useresponse.com/
    3. We recently updated the UX of our Feedback Portal, would be great if you could check it.
    4. We have quite a complex product with a high level of customization. The strongest parts are the omnichannel support system and community feedback tool. Plus we offer on-premise installations.
    5. We'd like to improve ondoarding and increase conversions by helping prospects to better understand the value of the product

    Thank you in advance!

    1. 2

I missed you off my list! Apologies, you're #20 (I'm currently on 13, about to do 14+). Apologies for the delay, I'm getting feedback and improving things as I go

        Hi Paul,
Thank you for including us in your list.
        Speaking about the competitors:
For Help Desk Solution these are Zendesk, Freshdesk, HelpCrunch, Kayako
For the Feedback solution we compete with UserVoice, Canny, Upvoty

    Hi there!
Would love to get this kind of help.
So, if you are still doing this, here we go:

    1. Product name: Storeotip
    2. URL - https://www.storeotip.com
    3. Feedback: As an e-commerce owner, would you be interested in such tool?
    4. Strongest parts: The tool does only 1 thing, scans e-commerce product pages. That can be seen as an advantage, the learning curve should not be steep.
    5. Metrics: user retention, user acquisition.

    Thanks!

When searched in e-commerce platforms app stores, we've found apps that focus on SEO:

That being said, these apps focus heavily on SEO.
We were thinking on giving SEO a basic overview, and the provide page feedback in other ways.

So not sure if there is a similar "generic" app.

        1. 1

Thanks for sharing these. Your video is ready, I sent a DM on Twitter - can you share an email with me I can share the Loom video with please?

    3. Love to have feedback on the onboarding process after a user signs up. The product is a personal trainer management system that allows trainers to publish their own custom branded mobile (and web) app and sell their workout programs.
    4. The strongest part is that we have a system to give a trainer a custom branded fitness mobile app without having them go to a custom development shop.
    5. I like to improve the signup to creating 2 workouts metric. Once a trainer adds content, it's easier for to want to pay and publish their fitness app to the Apple and Android stores.

There's a few white label native fitness app creators including:

This one is just web based web site creator:

There's also more traditional 1 to 1 fitness platforms which we have had trainers from:

Main goal is to make the creator more $$ by allowing them to sell their workout programs to a wider audience.
