Discord tools and Peloton for X (among other trending opportunities)

Exploding Topics scours the internet to find emerging trends before they take off.

Here are four of the latest developments, along with some insights and analysis to help you take advantage.

1. Smokeless fire pit

A smokeless fire pit is a sunken bonfire designed to give off less smoke than a traditional pit.

They typically work via a double wall system, where excess smoke is drawn off and reburned.

Yukon and Ranger, low-smoke designs from Solo Stove, reached their funding goal on Kickstarter within 45 minutes. In total, they raised $1.7M on the platform.

And AMZScout estimates that one of these Solo Stove products generates $179.2K in monthly revenue.

The fire pit market as a whole is forecast to rise to $296.1M by 2026 (up from $241.5M today).

What’s next:

Smokeless fire pits are part of the Lockdown Home Improvement meta trend.

Lockdowns led many people to upgrade their homes. For example: searches for “backyard office” are up 2x over the last 24 months.

And inside the home, houseplants are surging in popularity. Even before the pandemic, the US market size had increased 50% over 3 years to reach $1.7B.

Other topics in the meta trend include farmhouse kitchen designs, home bars, and Stone Coat Countertops.

2. Discord Street

Discord Street is a platform for discovering new Discord servers.

More than three-quarters (76%) of global internet users engage in some kind of online community.

And with Discord now above 100M monthly active users, there are millions of people looking for new servers within their niche.

Discord Street has $550 MRR. And currently boasts 229K unique monthly visitors per month.

What’s next:

Discord Street is part of the Discord tools meta trend.

Discord generated $130M last year, up from just $5M in 2016. Which has contributed to its most recent valuation of $10B.

The startup’s success has spawned add-on products, most notably Discord bots – automated tools that add functionality to servers.

Among the most popular bots is Mee6, a moderation and gamification bot added to 3M Discord servers.

Other rapidly growing topics related to discord bots include Top.gg, Loritta, and Carlbot.

3. Liteboxer

Liteboxer is a smart boxing workout pad.

The pad is made up of six circles, which the user punches when they illuminate. The hit zones light up in time with the beat of the music being played.

Liteboxer comes with an up-front cost ($1495) along with a subscription for live classes ($29/month).

Cofounder Todd Dagres previously founded Spark Capital. Which also provided early-stage funding to Twitter and Tumblr, as well as another smart workout brand, Mirror.

So far, Liteboxer has raised $26M in funding, including a $20M Series A in June.

What’s next:

Liteboxer is part of the “Peloton for X” meta trend.

Peloton’s success is no secret. It expects 4th quarter revenue of $915M.

And the company is expanding its product range (through the Peloton Tread). But there’s still a whole range of workout markets for other startups to corner.

Within boxing alone, Liteboxer finds itself up against FightCamp and Punchlab.

Then there’s CLMBR. This simulates a range of climbing movements and is designed to be a full-body workout.

The home workout sector as a whole was worth an estimated $9.49B last year (Research and Markets).

And other Peloton for X startups include Tonal, JaxJox, and Hydrow.

4. Hypercharts

Hypercharts is an app that visualizes the financial data of public companies.

The startup was launched by Hyperchange, a financial YouTube channel with 153K subscribers.

Hypercharts has grown to 720 paying customers and $7K MRR over the last 24 months.

What’s next:

Hypercharts is part of the “data visualization software” meta trend.

According to Content Marketing Institute, data visualization has seen the biggest increase in usage of any content type among B2B marketers over the past four years.

Visual Capitalist generates an estimated $3.4M per year from their visual-first content on business and investing.

The Pudding is a media site dedicated to telling stories through data visualization.

Tools for creating data-viz content are also growing quickly. Flourish, for easy interactive chart generation, has raised $1M in total funding.

And Grafana enables data visualization from databases in real-time.
