Video Testimonials - do they help sales growth?

👋 Hey all,

My name is Andrey, and I've been working in marketing for more than 8 years. I've always been looking for new ways to increase customer engagement with the client service or product, and that's how some time ago I came with the idea of Videotouch. It's a platform that allows business owners to collect video testimonials from their clients and upload them to their websites with no hustle. Using our service, you can create the testimonial collection campaign, share it with your customers (maybe offer them some perks), and then use their videos - no code or special knowledge needed.

First of all, I'd be interested to hear your feedback about this idea. What do you think about it? Do you believe video testimonials can help businesses boost their sales?

Also, we're getting close to our official launch, and I am excited to offer a special promo for our early users who join our waitlist. Leave a comment if you want to get 3 months of premium access to the platform for free.

Solid idea. I was sold on the concept of video testimonials when I saw a wall of video testimonials on Basecamp's site years ago.

I just went to check, and Basecamp does not seem to have the videos anymore. I wonder why.

    1. 1

Glad it worked on your experience with Basecamp! Quick question: do you remember if anything in particular grabbed your attention? Or you just thought they are more trustworthy than usual texts?

I think there is more than dozen of reasons why they decided to get rid of them..but would be interested to know that, too.

      1. 1

It took me years to realize what was different about Basecamp testimonials than everyone else because I have seen many video testimonials, especially nowadays. Still, none of them stuck with me like the Basecamp one.

And after years, I realized why...The testimonials were specific. And I realized this applies to all information/reviews. Basically, the more specific/concrete examples that are there, the more I trust them. So I remember(it was years ago, so the exact details might be wrong) the testimonial talking about how they used Fogbugz or MS Project as their previous tool. But it was super slow, and collaboration was super hard while Basecamp's xyz feature made it a breeze. The people in the testimonials named names, while most testimonials are generic.

And what drove that point home was when I was reading Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Amazing book btw every IndieHacker should read it at least once.), he talks about the same thing. He talks about how you can identify fake reviews by looking at how generic the review is. The more detailed it is, the more likely it is to be an honest review. Versus a fake review that talks in generalities.

But that goes for all reviews/testimonials, not just video testimonials.

The other thing is that they had a wall of testimonials. That was the only time I have seen a virtually endless set of testimonials. I was in awe of how they got so many people to give video testimonials. Back then, I do not think video was as popular as it is today.

So, ya those two things might not directly benefit in terms of a video testimonial.

But thanks for reminding me about the need for specificity in a testimonial. I should write a piece. It is essential to get a testimonial or review nowadays to make sure it is specific.

People love to share their opinion. If you create a platform that makes the process of gathering video content in a frictionless way, I'm sure this will be a successful business.
As per the sales conversion itself I'd say that the effect could also be positive - since there is always the question on customers' mind if the comments and reviews are coming from real people. Videos would make this fear move away and make the testimonial easier to relate to.

Awesome idea! It definitely seems to be a proven strategy for customer experience (have a look at videoask.com and testimonial.to)

Congrats and good luck with the launch :)

I'd like to check out your platform Audrey!

Well, video testimonials are definitely more effective than just a small piece of text, I don't think anyone doughts that. And in my experience collecting them is quite hard. And more than hard it is unpleasant. So I think your idea is great.

I see you don't mention the price anywhere, I'm curious what you are thinking of charging for something like this?

I love the way your landing page looks! Some functionality is missing and some bugs are also there.

Would it not be cool if you have video testimonials of your product on your landing page? 😉

    1. 1

Thank you! We are currently thinking about our pricing strategy trying to find the sweet spot between too cheap to be true and too expensive not worth trying. Hope we'll find it!

Would appreciate your feedback on website too :) What bugs did you find?

      1. 1

The bug i was talking about is in "Benefits of video testimonial software"
You have an animation of a toggle flip switch and next to it there is a half-transparent ovalish shape.

Just signed. Focus on any users on early stage. Later you can decide what you can do with that!

Great idea. I would like to check it out!
