I've always been afraid of failure, always been scared of annoying others, always been scared of making a mistake. This article gives me a new idea for the future in the long and short term with my newsletter, that making a mistake can actually accelerate success, that annoying others is part of the game, that failures and obstacles and experiments in fact propel growth.

    It is really amazing.

Loved this. This reminded me of the inversion mental model I learned about from a Charlie Munger's speech.

Absolutely. I've employed this technique myself. For example, I used to only send out one "businessy" newsletter per week out of fear of getting my loyal fanbase to unsubscribe. But the point of my newsletter IS to get people to buy my products... so I ramped up the commercial posts (not to a level of spam, though).. yes, the amount of people who unsubscribed did increase. However, I consider them doing me a favor. Instead of having to comb through tons of data and remove unengaged customers, my list is honing itself.

I really loved your idea of tracking if we are pushing things hard enough..It is spot on with this philosophy that I tend to strategize around - "the best performers set goals that are not about the outcome but rather about the process of reaching the outcome"
    Thanks for sharing.

I've been exactly the same in the past - not wanting to be disliked. You have to realize that there are always going to be people that will hate you, or something you say, or your product/service. Once you understand that, or go one step further like you've done and embrace it, you find that the haters don't matter when you're reaching your goals quicker : )

The Toyota analogy is brilliant and makes so much sense. Essentially, do the opposite of what everyone else is doing, fail fast, and you'll get ahead of the competition quicker.
