Do we need onlyfans for founders?

A couple months back, I had this idea of making a onlyfans for entrepreneurs.

Basically a private community/social media where founders will post quality content about their business, which they typically don't post for free.

Anyways, I started talking to some founders if they were interested in something like this. Some of them were interested, some had mixed feelings but majority of them didn't respond.

That kinda made me discouraged and drop the idea. But recently I checked the form and there were 11 people who joined the waitlist and some them gave really good feedback. So that made me wonder if I dropped the idea too quickly.

That's why I'm writing this blog to get your feedbacks. If you think this is something that will use, please join the waitlist or you think this is stupid, you can roast it as well.

    No, we don't.

You have two sorts of people speaking about how they got where they are. One's just telling and the other where they're building an audience to sell to.

If they're just telling they're not interested in selling the posts, they're just posting on HN, here, or reddit.

Those building an audience, they're not interested in selling the posts because the posts are content marketing for what they're really selling. And they already have mentor courses, etc so they don't need anywhere else.

      Hmmm.. makes sense!
      Thanks for the feedback 😬

There's plenty of channels to monetize business information already. Paid blogs, Patreon, courses, etc.

I don't think this adds anything to those channels.

The main reason why OF works is that there wasn't any dominant way of having subscription-based services for adult content where people can subscribe to a single entrepreneur (model). Other words: OF works because it's one of the first to do it that way in the adult niche to get hugely popular. But for the business niche, there's tons out there already.

I would try to bring this to market, as soon as possible, and then based on the adoption I would decide

      Yeap.. makes sense.
But I'm not sure what can be an MVP for this, that I can put together in couple of weeks.

  4. 2

i feel like there's already patreon and things like that, that entrepreneurs would use if they wanted to

Reach out to Founders who sell info products online.

You might get good feedback from them.

    Will check it out.

    Interesting idea!
I haven't thought about it yet but it's interesting!

Thanks. Will least launch an MVP if I get 25 people to join the waitlist 🤞

What if you changed the concept a bit...You allow founders to list their startups to an open directory where everyone can see everyone's startup details. Then you allow people to subscribe to a startup and then the subscribers would receive updates from the startups until launch...

    1. 1

Hmm interesting.. you mean like a newsletter?

      1. 1

No like onlyfans but for startup founders to showcase their projects to potential customers

        1. 2

so, as a customer, i'm supposed to pay for information about your company, that also sells me a product?

          1. 1

No. You don't pay for information. You pay for the product. The platform can make money from ads or pro features

  9. 2

I think there's a need but it's most likely not going to grow beyond organic and you are bound to have communities as competitions. Good news is that this need is always going to be there.

If you go to your local chamber of commerce, rotary clubs, etc. It's all for the same purpose...

Waitlist signups are great, but the feedback itself is even more valuable. When you talked to them, did you ask them what their problem was? What's your hypothesis on this? Do founders not currently have a space where to post content about their business? Or is it that they would like to monetize their expertise? The two are quite different. If it's the latter for example, your idea might be interesting, but as another user mentioned, how do you add value compared to the dozens of platforms to sell courses that already exist? There might be an angle, but this is what I would look at initially.

    1. 1

      Yeap true that

Other people in this thread point out correctly that it's possible with current solutions. It doesn't mean, though, that you should drop the idea. But it means a different approach in two key respects:

    1. Focusing on evangelism. Current solutions aren't used for such purposes because the idea of "paywalled build in public" isn't widespread. So you can position "onlyfounders" as a place-to-go for such content by spreading the idea itself – so the mere brand will differentiate you from other products.

    2. Competition will start to catch up, so it's crucial to understand long-term retention, that is, what long-term assets people can build on your platform that will make them stay.

Not a bad idea. Its sortof like "Udemy" but to a niche market and adding a subscription to it.

I know how to code, but I don't think anybody with any sense of decency will want to see me twerk in my birthday suit doing the fandango send a a bolt of lighting, or lets hope for their sake they don't.

I think something similar could be achieved with substack: https://substack.com/search/start-up

Maybe you can start a mailing list on the website and if you see the number of subscribers increases, have a paying website to read the archives.

Like a video how they hire, showing analysis of a marketing campaign, Vlog on work culture etc.
