Title: 6 Hendrix Riffs That Changed History

Formula: 6 (Authority Figure)’s (Tools, Work, Or Actions) That Changed History

Hook score*: +360

Why this works:

List - We’ve got a nice little list of 6 here!

Authority - Dropping in Jimi Hendrix’s name catches the attention of guitar lovers.

Epicness - “Changed History” makes this video sound really important.

How you can use this hook: Who are the greats in your industry that have changed history? It could be something as simple as a tool or project they did that has had a lasting impact since they were gone.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • 6 Gary Halbert Copywriting Tricks That Changed History

  • 6 Warren Buffett Rules That Changed History

Hey Girl, Nice Genes

Title: These AIs Are About to Revolutionize Biology

Formula: These (New Technology) Are About to Revolutionize (Industry)

Hook score: +361

Why this works:

Timely - AI is a hot topic right now, so this video rides that wave to get the viewers’ attention.

Curiosity - Talking about the future is a great way to build curiosity.

Epicness - Like “Changed History” in the above title, “Revolutionize” has a sense of epicness that grabs your attention.

How you can use this hook: Is your industry on the verge of a revolution? If it is (or if you think it might be), talk about what’s going to revolutionize it.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • AI Is About To Revolutionize YouTube

  • These VRs Are About To Revolutionize Shopping

Bogey Views

Title: What will a TOUR PRO golfer score around a public course?

Formula: What Will A (Professional In Your Niche) (Measurement of Achievement) (Public or Common Activity)?

Hook score: +433

Why this works:

Curiosity - The contrast of “TOUR PRO golfer” and “public course” builds curiosity here.

Authority - “TOUR PRO golfer” grabs your attention more than average Joe golfer.

Note: This title is similar to a previous title I’ve covered in this newsletter from a running company: “How Long Can the Coaches Run Olympic Marathon Pace?”

How you can use this hook: People love to see how the pros in their industry compare to us mortals. To use this hook, talk about how a pro would do on a course or against a benchmark that everyone else does.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • Did WALL STREET investors beat the market in 2021?

  • How do OLYMPIC RUNNERS place in your neighborhood turkey trot?

Dividend Ends

Title: This is the Lowest Amount You Need to Live Off of Dividends

Formula: This is the Lowest Amount You Need To (Achieve Goal)

Hook score: +954

Why this works:

Deep Desire - This title gives the audience the bare minimum to reach one of their biggest goals (thus making it a little more achievable than they might think), so they can’t help but click.

Curiosity - This title opens a loop by saying “This is the lowest amount you need…” but not actually telling you what that amount is.

How you can use this hook: What are your audience’s goals? Now what are the minimum steps they need to take to reach those goals? If you can show them they’re actually not as far off as they think they are, you’ll win their hearts and their eyeballs.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • This is the Lowest Number Of Backlinks You Ned To Start Ranking on Google

  • This is the only equipment you need to get started on YouTube

Tent Pitchin'

folic acid thumbnail

Title: A vitamin a day to get your erections to stay?? | Folic acid for Erectile Dysfunction

Formula: A (Tool) a day to get (Goal) to stay?? | (Solution) for (Problem)

Hook score: +1020

Why this works:

Deep Desire - If someone is experiencing this issue, they’ve gotta click.

Daily Tips - If you can tie your audience reaching their goal with something they can just plug into their daily routine, they’re likely to watch and act.

Rhyming - Playing off the “apple a day keeps a doctor away” gives this title some spunk.

Question - Questions only make up about 11% of the titles that make it in this newsletter, but this edition has 2! When it comes to this topic, it’s a winner no matter if the title is in a question form or not.

How you can use this hook: Making a fun rhyme like this for a daily tip takes a little skill, but the payoff can be huge. Here are some examples…

Examples of this hook in action:

  • A cold email a day makes money woes go away?? Simple agency client acquisition tip

  • One exercise a day for your slim waist to stay | Easy muffin top-removal exercise

Flop of the Week

urologist thumbnail

Title: Urologists are.....WORTHLESS?! Doctor vs. Google

Hook score: -95

Why this flopped: This video has negativity, authority, and a comparison vs. Google… how did it flop?!

Because the video is about urologists. It’s about the creator, not the audience.

Here are some of the other videos that have done well recently:

  • Don’t put this household product down there!

  • Why men have urinary dribble and what to do about it

  • 8 tips to stop frequent urination at night

Those are all about the audience, so if your audience expects the video to be about them and their problems, expect your video to flop when you make it about you.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
