Twitter users slammed Elon Musk's proposed $20 fee for verification, saying they would instead leave the platform. Among the critics is author Stephen King, who said, "they should pay me." One user pointed out that Twitter would make an extra $7.2M/year if only 10% of 294,000 verified users paid for the blue tick. Seeing the backlash, Musk wondered out loud if maybe $8 was a more palatable option.
