My AI side-project made first sale after 3 days of launching

Made my first sale today with SaaS Agreements saasagreements.co

P.S. DM me on twitter to get 50% discount for a testimonial. https://twitter.com/shreeetej/

Note: took down website for maintenance due to major issue, will be up soon.

I trained GPT-3 on 100+ privacy policies and ToS (ToU) of SaaS startups.
Here's how it works:

  1. You pay $49 one-time for lifetime access and free modifications anytime in future
  2. AI generates GDPR based privacy policy based on your input, i.e, data you'll collect from your users.
  3. Receive privacy policy by email under 4 hrs.

Why 4 hrs? The agreement has to be verified manually before putting it up on your website. So I'll read and verify the privacy policy manually and then email you.

I made prototype on whiteboard on how it will work. And built MVP with bubble.io , connected stripe and launched. All in 2 days.
The policy is generated with python on backend and later on verified and emailed to you.
Turns out having a coding background actually helps you build apps faster with no-code tools.

P.S made my first sale from indiehackers.

Congratulations on your first sale! How did you come up with the idea for SaaS Agreements? Were there any particular pain points that you or someone you know experienced that led to the creation of this product?

    1. 4

Thank you. I worked on many side projects in past. All failed. Mainly because I was solving a problem not related to me/people.
During my previous startups, I came across many policy generators. Termsfeed and termly are popular ones, and cost $200+ and $180+/yr. (resp.) viz. not really affordable for early-stage startups, as they have to save costs, and be GDPR compliant at same time, also not all startups are US based. I'm from India so it's literally super expensive for me to spend $200 on just privacy policy.
So I built MVP and launched the saasagreements.co , with better pricing plan $49 for lifetime access and free modifications anytime in future.

That's a genuinely good idea for applying AI in my opinion.
Generating boring for vital text content.

I wish I'd had this a couple of weeks ago, I used a generator and paid close to about $300 for a TOS and privacy policy.

One friction point is that I'd want the content to be guaranteed to be legit, knowing AI/chatgpt can be wayward sometimes, you should make a bigger point that a human is verifying this before sending to the customer. Or at least ensure it has the main clauses that people expect, with the AI generated content is an addition. Hope that makes sense.
I think this is just a copywriting excersise

    1. 1

Yep! That's why it's taking 4 hrs, it's all manual work to ensure everything is according to legal format. I'll cross-verify and read the policy multiple times, make changes if necessary, before emailing it to you.

      1. 2

I thought so, that's cool. Just make it very clear that's part of the service.
Created by AI vetted by humans

        1. 1

Added section on website to clear that point. Thanks

Hey Shreetej, congrats on your first sale!

We're gathering a community for AI entrepreneurs. Would you like to join us? It looks like you may benefit from it in terms of knowledge and experience sharing! There are already multiple founders of successful AI startups, CTOs, developers, designers, and many more incredible people (100+ in total)

    1. 2

I would love to join as well. I', building an AI powered podcast network and we just crossed 30 episodes across three shows.

  4. 4

Its not just a sale, its real-validation. Good stuff.

  5. 3

I hate privacy policies. So you’re saying for 50 bucks I can generate 3 privacy policies tomorrow?

Going to sign up when I wake up and get to my computer. Love it!!

    1. 1

Not exactly. You'll get only one privacy policy per website. But you can make changes in future, which you will, so it'll be free for 3 times anytime in future.
For pro plan, it's 1 privacy and 1 ToS agreement for one website, in that plan you can make 5 changes, anytime in future.
But if you are in early-stage startup or indie maker, there's a 50% discount. DM me on twitter to get this discount. So you can generate 2 privacy policies for $50

  6. 3

Congrats! It's not real until you launch. And it's not really-real until you get a paying customer 😅

    1. 2

First sale boosts your productivity to god level 😅

  7. 3

Congrats on your first sale. Hopefully the first of many.

I have a technical question about the model you're using. In my knowledge, OpenAI doesn't give the possibility to fine tune their GPT-4 model, so how did you train it on 100+ examples?

    1. 2

*GPT-3 😬. Thanks for pointing out 😅 made little typo

  8. 3

awesome stuff! good luck to you!

  9. 2

Huge congrats! This is huge and a giant inspiration, do you have any tips on getting the word out and customer acquisition?

    1. 1

Just use search on indiehackers. And reach out to the companies. I visited website of every product on indiehackers and then contacted those who didn't had privacy policy page.

  10. 2

Congratulations it is good but there are free other resources how you can compete with them? Initially its good but for scaling point of view its not looks the good idea?

What do you think about it!

    1. 1

Free resources are just templates and they probably won't cover your product. Dome SaaS apps use cookies others don't. Free template probably won't help you with that. Also it should be GDPR compliant. Which is the case with SaaS Agreements. It's GDPR compliant and custom made for your SaaS app.

  11. 2

Hi, great to hear you made your first sale. I recently used a similar product to generate privacy policy for my website and it was free.

    1. 1

Free privacy policy generators are actually templates. Make sure you read it point to point, and see if it aligns with your product's data collection methods and GDPR compliant. If it doesn't then I'd recommend you to stop using that.

  12. 2

This is a great product. Despite being super simple, the website is nice. Solves a real problem too!

    1. 1

Thank you. A lot of aspects in legal aspects are pre-filled that's why it's simple and needs let input.

  13. 2

How did you market this product and get your first sale?

    1. 1

Reached out to potential customers on indiehackers. Searched all the products launched this year! Took some time but made first sale!

  14. 1

You're project is down. So people paid $49 and lost access to it a few days later? :( I hope it isn't the case

    1. 1

Definitely not 😅 You just lost access to the web app, not the service. You paid for the lifetime access you will get the lifetime access. One of the many reasons why I prefer one-time payment over subscriptions.

  15. 1

Congratulations! Interested in understanding why you opted for a lifetime access fee as opposed to a subscription SaaS as so many other's seem to be doing. Any thoughts on pay per policy option?

    1. 1

I actually started with pricing plan. But it was priced really low, $3-$4 /mo. so I changed it to lifetime access.
      More on it here: https://twitter.com/dannypostmaa/status/1654063324496289792?t=vN6T--46bERtGfUv1OvxAQ&s=19

  16. 1

This is so cool. I have been thinking of training agreements on Chat GPT myself as I am a former lawyer. How did you go about training the model?

    1. 1

Had some privacy policies from my previous startups, bought some templates online, and took from some from different SaaS websites.

  17. 1

Congratulations! Now that you have made your first sale are you seeing more traction these days?

    1. 1

Thank you. Tbh, I made only first sale haven't reached out to customers after that. As I am busy with personal stuff right now, I'll start reaching out soon.

  18. 1

    Hey congratulations!

I have a question from a marketing point of view, did you get the first paying customer on Indie Hackers through a previous blog post or through regular engagements with people and understanding who is facing a similar issue?

I think your product is based on a solid idea and I wish you all the best!

    1. 2

Thank you. I searched for all products and launches in this year on indiehackers and reached out to those who don't have policy agreement on their website.
