Have you given up on writing blogs?

Writing a good blog post is damn hard.

Generating a supremely average one is pretty easy.

And SEO... well. That's a whole other topic.

How do you find creating content these days?

Indeed it is! In recent years, I've focused mainly on creating tutorial and educational content based on my workflows, methods and personal experiences. For me, this type of content feels the most genuine and (hopefully) helpful and also offers me no shortage of ideas.

Ultimately I've found that this type of content naturally tends to perform well in terms of SEO. Since the focus is on providing valuable information and actionable advice, it naturally incorporates relevant keywords and meets the criteria search engines look for. So, during the ideation and writing process, I don't stress too much about SEO, as I know the content will inherently cater to it.

I don't neglect SEO entirely, rather, I periodically analyze and improve the content over time. The usual; assessing keyword performance, monitoring search engine rankings, and making necessary tweaks to ensure the content remains relevant and visible to the target audience, etc.

Oo, that's really interesting! Sounds like you've found a great way to nail what others have to research - search intent.

      When I first started writing, I thought I didn't have to consider SEO. Write good content and they will come... that advice might have worked in 2002.. but I've found SEO optimization is the only way to actually make sure what I write gets read ^^;

I usually start with something simple and expand it over time. I typically write quick guides for my future self, most often on technical topics. I may return to a post if I work on the subject again or if the post gets traffic or user comments.

If you’re a non-technical founder and you want to ask questions or exchange messages about tech topics, feel free to reach out to me. I’m not selling anything, just want to help as well as learn from others. https://ask.joeldare.com

This is SO interesting! I'm kinda finding myself leaning towards that as I learn to teach others (so I can grow my agency with high-quality teammates). I definitely reframe some of my mindsets to 'creating myself a guide' - I feel that's a really efficient hack to write great quality, useful content. Thank you!

Not a founder with a product (I offer services) so I'm not quite your audience, but I've saved your address so I know where to go if I ever want to! Thank you :D

No, I haven't. Even though I've been doing it for 3 years at this point and haven't had the kind of stratospheric success that I've seen others had with it.

If anything, I'm now not just writing in a personal blog but in 2 other places. I think the internet never forgets and the traffic is always useful.

I've never had that wow success with posts going viral, either. But I'm repeatedly surprised to know that, as you've said, people always do read my posts. The internet never forgets!

Yeah that's true. I thought of quitting a couple of times in the past. But I still think writing online is one of the highest leverage activities one can do. And so, I'm not stopping in the foreseeable future.

I found my Linkedin posts perform quite well. It is definitely harder to consistently churn out quality blog posts.

Any tips you've learned for writing LI posts that perform?

I write things that I care deeply about. That passion shows and people like it.

Creating high-quality content can indeed be a challenging task, whether it's for a blog post or any other form of content. It requires a combination of creativity, research, organization, and effective communication skills

True true! All those elements really do have to come together for you to develop something good.

By far I find effective communication the hardest. I'm gonna be learning that for the rest of my life!
